Hello! This is a short story (and I mean short story!) that I had to do for a creative writing course last year. And I thought that since I haven't posted anything since my three poems, I'd try this out.

This is extremely short, typed up to be about two pages long and kind of confusing. But I hope you enjoy it!

“Hey; you alive?” he asked.

She opened her eyes and looked up with clouded pink eyes and couldn’t make out the person that had asked her the question. She forced herself up on her elbows but shuddered in pain and fell back to the ground. The sticky-ness of blood met her cheek and she realized she was injured . . . badly.

“I’ll take that as a ‘barely,’” he commented as he stooped down next to her. He lifted her up and looked her over, whistling in surprise. “That’s a deep wound you’ve got there. . .”

He traced a gash across her chest gently with his fingers and the slight touch made her yell out in pain. Her yell made him hiss and grit his teeth as he covered her mouth. “Hush! I didn’t hurt you!”

She stopped and stared at him as he shrugged out of his coat. A small, black, cast-iron pistol caught her eye and she averted her attention to it. It barely shinned in the dim light yet it stuck out against his pale blue sweater. Suddenly she wondered if he would use it on her; if he would finish her off. She jumped in surprise when he picked her up in his arms and held her bridal-style as he walked, bringing her from her thought.

“Sleep if you want,” he said to her, “I’ll get you somewhere you can be treated.”

She nodded slightly and rested her head against his shoulder. Her eyes focused on the ever so slightly changing scenery and the next thing she knew, it was dark.

--

“Albino or not! She’ll die if you don’t!”

The voice startled her and she awoke in a half-lit room. She looked around at the boring, white walls and sat up. Pain shot through her and she gritted her teeth, the pain numbing her senses. Circles formed in front of her eyes and everything became fuzzy. Her breathing got heavy and quick, and it made her hurt more; she screamed out her anguish.

The door to the room burst open and the man that had found her flinted into the room and to her side in no time. He held her close and tried to calm her but she kept screaming her pain. Her body felt like it was melting from the inside out and her blood was boiling, cooking her flesh. She jerked and convulsed in his arms, trying to urge the pain away.

“Hold still, you’ll be fine!” he said to her and held her tighter, “They won’t treat you; but I know something that’ll help you . . . I’ll regret it; but it’ll save you.”

She looked at him in the midst of her pain-induced fit and saw a blue-ish liquid dripping from his incisor teeth. She stared at him in horror, her yelling and spasms stopping, and all she could think was he was going to kill her.

He titled her head back a bit and she tried to push him away. He said it would be alright over and over but she didn’t believe him. As he continued to try and reassure her, he lowered his head and leaned towards her exposed neck.

She screamed louder than she had before as she felt a burning pain in her neck. It soon numbed and her eyes slid shut; her pain was replaced with a calm. She wondered if he was drinking her pain away or killing her as she slipped back into sleep.

--

She awoke again and blinked at a dusty brown haired man. Her pink eyes met his green ones and she gave a questioning look.

“You’re alive; best damn thing in the world, isn’t it?”

She nodded at him and he smiled.

“My name’s Johnny; I’m real sorry ‘bout that; but Albinos don’t really get any respect here. So what’s your name, girl?”

The albino girl shook her head and he frowned. “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?” he inquired. Again, she shook her head and pointed to her throat.

“Mute,” he summarized her meaning. He ruffled her hair and stood up, “I’ll just call you Miranda.”

She blinked before smiling at him; her savior. A thought crossed her mind and it made her beam more; she would follow him for saving her life.
