Madoka x Ru (Family/Drama/Hurt)

No one cared much for her. After all she was just another one of his daughters. Of his many daughters, no one paid her much mind, and most definitely not a threat.

At least that was Ru had been told when he had asked his regent, but he continued to watch her. The eight year old girl who loved to sit by the pond with a book at hand, short black hair always fell on her face. Her eyes were always on the words, she never noticed him.

Not until he went up to her and started to talk, even then she had no idea who he was, and he didn’t introduce himself. He didn't need another puppet that always bowed. He needed a sister, something he never got.

"Doesn't your mother get angry when she sees you reading that?" The eleven year old asked once.

Madoka shrugged, "They hate me. All of his wives hate me, so I don't care." She didn't take her eyes off the book as she said it.

He sighed and went back to staring out at nothing.

She never asked who he was, it wasn't that she didn't care, but if he wouldn't tell her, who was she to pry? He was the only friend she had ever had and she didn't want to scare him away.

"Your highness, you can't go disappearing today," His regent told him.

"Do you question me?" Ru replied harshly, he was the son of the Emperor. It was the way he was taught.

"Your father forbids you from spending time with your sister; it's having a negative effect on you!" Shinji insisted.

The red haired prince glared and that shut him, but despite this he didn't go see her that week. After all, his father's word was law.

It surprised her when he didn't show up, but she didn't comment on it. She shrugged, 'Maybe he doesn't want to be friends anymore…' Pessimistic, she had been told, was her key trait. She rolled her eyes and said that optimism was a way for fools to feel good about themselves.

So she went on to read her book, about political science, "Because I want to rule." She answered when asked. It shocked them, but they left her alone afterwards.

Hours went by and the sun was about to set, she looked up and closed her book. She rubbed her tired eyes, stood up, and walked back to her chambers.

She was surprised at who awaited her.

"Empress Hoshino," She murmured respectfully.

"Madoka, what is this I hear about you spending time with Ru," She cut to the chase, Rena really didn't want to the brat.

"Prince Ru?" She asked for the first time curious, "But I've never met him."

"What about that red haired boy you're always sitting with in the afternoons, have you met him?!"

"But that's not-" She stopped, she understood. "I apologize Majesty, it won't happen again."

"Good answer," Rena muttered before she walked out the door.

When he did come back a week later she didn't talk to him as readily, but she let him sit there. After all, what was wrong with that, it couldn't possibly make her mother that angry. But she didn't address him with his title either, after all it wasn't he who had to tell her.

"Madoka," he said at last, "Why don't you ask who I am, anyways?"

She raised her eyes to meet his, "Because I already know."

He shut up immediately.

'They're wrong she is a threat,' He thought to himself one morning after his tutor left. 'She is very much a threat.'

He got up and sighed, he walked to the ceremony hall. She would probably be there with the other princesses today.

"Good work Princess, perfect," an older female's voice came, and Ru peeked inside.

He turned to look at Madoka who gave a shrug. The older woman was assessing a flower arrangement which he presumed the princess had come up with. His eyes went back to his sister, and then the pillar behind her.

'Did that pillar just wobble…?' He asked himself, 'No-'

"WATCH OUT!" With a speed he didn't know he had he slid on the glossy marble, and kicked her out of the way.

Then it went black…

That was the first time she had screamed, but one that echoed through the entire palace. The guards had shown up immediately and hoisted the pillar off him.

She paced back and forth outside of the hospital room. 'Big brother…'

The door sprung open abruptly and there stood a very disgruntled Empress. Madoka gulped, "YOU!" The Empress shrieked, "This is your fault, you’re the reason my son is in this state. If he dies, you die." She grabbed the little girl's hair and dragged her off.

Madoka made no protest, 'This is…my fault.'

She didn't come to see him, and though he tried to convince himself otherwise, he cared. I lay down in his chambers after signing papers; his hand writing had come back to him for the most part. The only long term damage it had cost was he wouldn't have the ability to wield a sword.

There was something technical involved, about his nerves being damaged so it would take him too long to react. All that he had seen was the disappointment in his father's eyes.

He sighed, it wasn't as though he hadn't gotten use to it, but it still did sting a little bit. At least it proved he had something to loose.

Ru got up when he heard the sound of the doors opening and closing.

"Sire, you summoned?" Shinji spoke as he approached.

The prince nodded, "I've been noticing this for some time now," He cut to the chase. He didn’t believe in hesitation. "About Madoka, father has never once scolded her for reading instead of learning embroidery or something pointless like that."

"Sire?" Ru wasn't stupid; he could see his regent hid something from him.

"My point is that he would with his other daughters, why not her." He growled.

Shinji hesitated looking away, "That might not be something you want to ask me highness-"

"Tell me, or it's your head."

"You deserve so much worse," Empress Hoshino muttered, a mad glint visible in her eyes, as Madoka and she watched the little girl's books go up in flames.

The princess bit her lip, but she didn't say anything.

"This is your fault!"

Those same words echoed inside of her head. Tears slid down her face once again, and she heard another cruel laugh from the Queen.

"Mother!" A voice sounded from behind her and she was almost afraid to turn around.

"Ru, how are you feeling my darling?" Rena gushed as she ran to her son and threw her arms around him.

"Mother what have you done?!" He snarled and pushed her away, "Madoka?"

She gulped, "Your majesty," she bowed.

He walked towards her, "Are you alright?"

Madoka nodded, and Ru turned to face his mother. "Rena, you're going to answer to me about this…"

She clenched her hands tighter as the shouts from the other room continued. 'Why is he doing this…?'

The doors swung open suddenly and there stood her brother, red in the face and furious. "Let's go." He muttered, he grabbed her arm and pulled her back to his palace.

She didn't speak, didn't protest, and only did what she was told.

But by the time they had reached she had, had enough. "Ru!" She yelled at him and he halted, he spun around.

"Has anyone told you about your mother?" He spoke up, after a few moments of complete silence.

"Y-you, just took me away from her," she answered and glanced back from the direction they had come.

He sent her a skeptical look, "You can't really believe that."

She let out a sigh, "No…" Madoka had never admitted that before. 'She isn't my mother she can't be…'

"Have you ever heard of the Empress before her?" Ru closed his eyes, almost as if he was scared to talk anymore.

"Empress Yuuri Jin, she was executed because of unknown charges." Madoka spoke up, proud to know that fact. Not many girls bothered with studies. She presumed he wanted to change the subject and didn't object.

He looked at her with sad eyes.

"N-no…" she said, it had finally caught up with her, "You're lying!"

He shook his head.

"I-" He didn't let her finish.

"You're on your own now."

"H-huh?"

"I saved you from my mother, but in return prove me wise for letting you live. So keep up with your goddamn studying, take the whole archive if you want it, god knows I sure don't. But make sure you prove me right."

"Aniue-"

"And don't call me that." His eyes went cold, "We're after the throne; this is a race and who ever wins, becomes ruler."

He sent her a smirk. Which she returned with a look of fear and disbelief, "Aniue, no."

"You're on your own, take care of yourself." He turned around and left her on her knees.

'My dear little sister…'

A ten year old girl walked down the halls of the palace, she head straight to the archives. Her medium length black hair pulled back into a no-nonsense pony-tail, her eyes glowed with determination.

"My, my, someone's been studying a lot lately," That mocking voice came.

She didn't bother to turn around to know who it was. "What do you want Ru?" She kept walking forth, nothing got in her way, not ever.

"I just came to see how my dear little sister was doing, is that such a crime?"

She didn't answer him, he shook his head and left.

"No it isn't Aniue…" She spoke in barely a whisper.

'But I will kill him before you do, that is a game only I can win.'

A/N: I'm not so sure I mentioned before how old Ru was when he broke his arms. But this was definitely refreshing to write, the whole brother/sister friendship. I like it away from all the drama. Anyways, I hope you all liked it as well! Thank you for reading!
