This poem was written 7 Jan 2008.

Reflection

The fog on the mirror clears,
and I see a face, looking back at me.
The person is staring, and I stare back.
It takes me a while to recognize myself.
It's funny that we should forget,
what our hair looks life,
the color of our eyes.
And it's a wonder to see yourself,
as those around you see you.
It's a funny thing, your appearance.
It hardly shows who you really are,
but in the same, unnerving way it does.
The person in the mirror is looking sad.
I wonder if she feels too,
that I certainly could not be her.
I wonder if the person in the mirror
is really me, and I, I am just a reflection.

I wrote this during my Junior English class. I ended up presenting it for the class during national poetry month and my peers seemed generally surprised and impressed that I had written it. Thus far, it is the poem I am most proud of.
