Glimpses of Truth and Honesty
This story is a branch off story from 4 Boyfriend involving the characters Shin and Sunao (Nao-chan) who were shown briefly in chapter 17. Yet, unlike any of my previous works this one features mature adult themes. Note that there are some sex scenes between men though nothing really worthy of being called a lemon. In keeping with the title, this story is basically just a series of glimpses into the forming relationship between Ichihara Shinsuke and Sunao Ebisu
Note: Shin can loosely translate to truth and Nao means honest.
DISCLAIMER/WARNING/WHATEVER: THIS IS RATED M FOR MATURE FOR A REASON!! DO NOT READ IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE IT!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! (It’s actually not that bad in my opinion but whatever…)
“Sweet words”
He knew he was just his sex partner, but then he was lonely and longed for someone. Anyone. Even someone who didn’t think of him as more than just a fuck buddy. Currently, that somebody was Ochida Akihito.
“Instructor.” Akihito whispered, running his hands through the man’s long sun bleached hair.
Instructor Sunao worked at the gym and taught fitness classes as well as weight training for body builders and athletes. The man’s lean muscular body, long hair, and tan had caught Akihito’s interest when he had fist come to the gym to pursue his hobby of bodybuilding.
Sunao only taught classes during the winter but retained a tan from the summer months when he worked as a lifeguard. His manner was polite and innocent and Akihito soon found that he wanted to soil something seemingly so pure only to find that Sunao wasn’t innocent when it came to love making between men. Akihito didn’t mind though and delighted in pleasuring the young weight-training instructor.
They panted and pawed at each other in the empty fitness room with the many mirrors around them. It was late at night as Akihito had stayed past normal hours to use the weight room and had stayed even later for personal instruction from Instructor Sunao. But that just meant sex.
Sunao was young but he knew when he was being used. Yet, he had always been lonely and longed for the loving Akihito gave him. “Aki… ah!” He breathed as the larger man thrust into him. His voice was caught in his throat as the man began pounding into him. He couldn’t say that his body wasn’t enjoying it, but at the same time his heart ached for something more…
Sunao waited in the manager’s office as the manager was being questioned. “This is horrible.” The manager Otani kept repeating after every question.
Sunao couldn’t say anything. It was like his voice was stuck. He stared forward blankly still seeing the pale corpse engraved into his eyesight. Last night he had been here with Akihito. This morning he had discovered the corpse of one of the gym’s customers.
A private investigator had been called in. He was someone named Ichihara Shinsuke. He seemed too young and goofy to be a serious detective. Even so, he was supposed to be a famous genius that had solved every case he had ever been presented. He was a sort of lanky fellow with black hair, short in the back but bangs that hung over his eyes. He wore a tan trench coat which he didn’t take off even while inside.
“He was training for the Olympics, right?” The detective was asking the manager.
Sunao sat off to the side in a daze barely registering the other two people in the room. He still could not believe that someone had died. He wished he had not been the one to see it. He had never seen a dead person before and had hoped he never had to.
Though the detective was talking to the manager, he was glancing in Sunao’s direction. Sunao was in too much shock or he would have seen the detective staring at him. The manager was too much in a fit to notice anything other than how horrible the situation was.
Otani nodded his head. “Yes, many famous athletes train here which is why… I mean…” He hushed his voice. “What will happen to Sonkei if the media gets a hold of this? This is horrible!”
“That’s why I’m here.” The detective said. “I got a call from your main branch to keep the investigation secretive.” Sonkei gym was a prestigious corporation that so far only operated two gyms that catered to the famous and rich. The gym in Tokyo was the main branch as it had opened first and most celebrity athletes trained there. In an attempt to expand the business and because the Tokyo gym had acquired too many customers, a second gym outside of Tokyo had been constructed.
This was the gym Sunao worked at. This was also the gym a dead aspiring Olympic gymnast was found at. To avoid a big media scandal, the owners of the Sonkei gym company had specifically asked for Ichihara to investigate the case.
“Good.” The manager sighed. “This is horrible.” He repeated.
“This is indeed horrible.” Ichihara agreed. “But I think you should be worrying about Tsukano instead of the media.” Detective Ichihara scolded. “And depending on your answer I might not be able to keep quiet about what I found on his body.”
“What do you mean? What did you find?” Ichihara held up what looked like pills in a plastic bag. “What’s that?” The manager wondered clueless.
“I’m guessing these are the cause of death for Tsukano-san. Whether they are performance enhancing drugs or ecstasy, both of these are illegal. I wouldn’t want to find out that this gym is actually an underground supplier for illegal drugs.”
“How could you suggest such a thing?” The manager yelled. He was severely offended that the Sonkei gym’s reputation was being challenged. “This is a prestigious gym whose customers would never stoop so low!”
“Well obviously the deceased stooped as low,” Ichihara said almost sarcastically. “So low it killed him!” He exclaimed as if he were in some low budget mystery movie. The line was corny but Otani was too offended and Sunao was too much in shock to notice.
“We do not deal drugs here!” Otani said lowly.
“I’ll believe you for now.” He said nodding. “But I’ll need a list of all clients who were here yesterday and all employees.”
“This is horrible!” Otani said rummaging in his desk. “An underground supplier for drugs! Who do you think we are?”
Ichihara ignored the man’s ramblings and then looked over at Sunao and smiled warmly. Sunao didn’t register the look and just continued to stare blankly. “You were the one who discovered the body… uh…” He looked down at his notebook. “Sunao Ebisu?” He wondered.
“Huh? Oh… uh… yes.” He answered still in a daze.
“Nice name by the way.” Ichihara mentioned.
“Uh… thanks?” He was surprised.
“And you’re such a beautiful man!” The detective said leaning up close to him.
“Um… what?”
Otani frowned, cleared his throat and slammed some papers on his desk interrupting the detective’s flirting. Ichihara smiled down at Sunao and stood back up. “After I finish looking over these files, I’ll need to talk to you. Don’t go anywhere please.” He instructed pointing at him.
“Oh… ok.” He said still in somewhat of a shock.
The deceased was named Tsukano Daiya, a cute and bubbly gymnast who had dreams of making it into the Olympics. He was so young and kind that it seemed unfair for him to have died. Sunao gulped feeling guilty that he had ever thought ill of the young boy.
He had once suspected that Tsukano had also been involved with Akihito. It wasn’t like he and Akihito were lovers but he was still jealous none-the-less. He relived one of the last times he had seen Tsukano alive. It had been when he was with Akihito.
“Oh! Instructor Sunao! Ochida-san!” The bubbly younger boy said running up to them with a towel around his neck. “Are you going to the weight room?” He wondered.
“Yeah.” Ochida Akihito answered smiling almost mischievously.
“I just got finished working out! I have to be strong if I want to make it in the Olympics after all!” He chirped patting his arm to show off his muscle.
“Oh, how is that going?” Sunao asked politely.
“Great! I’ll make it for sure!” He said and then looked over at Ochida. They shared a look and Sunao began to feel uncomfortable. Sunao began to suspect that maybe they were sleeping together as well.
“Well, I’ll see you later then, Instructor Sunao! Ochida-san!” The young boy finally claimed. Sunao had to admit he was cute and easy to get along with. Was Akihito also seeing him? He was jealous and didn’t wish to see Tsukano again after that but of course he didn’t want him to die!
“Your relationship to Ochida-san?” Ichihara was asking.
“Huh? What does that have to do with Daiya?” Sunao thought that by using his first name it would make Tsukano’s death less traumatic. It didn’t.
“Ochida has left town leaving me to suspect that he has everything to do with Tsukano’s death.”
“Left town?”
“His apartment is cleared out. He’s gone. It is my suspicion that he was the one who provided Tsukano with the drugs found on his body.”
“What? I…” Sunao was in shock. He had never thought to connect the death to the man he was sleeping with.
“You two were lovers, weren’t you?” Ichihara said as if he could read his thoughts. Sunao looked up quickly finding the detective staring at him with intense eyes from behind bangs that were too long. How had the detective figured it out? He had only been there since this morning.
“How did you…”
Detective Ichihara shook his head. “Just call it a detective’s intuition.”
Sunao looked down in shock. He chose his words carefully. “I didn’t know he was selling drugs. He never told me about it.”
He should have known though, right? Akihito was a tough man who seemingly had a lot of money. Bodybuilding had been a hobby for him. He claimed he had inherited his wealth from his family, but Sunao should have known he was lying. Akihito was too shady of a character to have really acquired his money through legal means.
He hesitated not wanting to admit his embarrassing relationship with Ochida Akihito. He knew that Ochida didn’t love him and it felt humiliating to explain that he was nothing more than a fuck buddy. “We weren’t exactly what you would call lovers.” He finally admitted. “Just sex friends.” He grumbled looking down embarrassed. Why did he have to tell a stranger this?
He expected the detective to disapprove but the look he was giving Sunao seemed sympathetic. Ichihara leaned back in his chair and lit a cigarette. “I feel a little jealous.” He admitted taking a puff and exhaling.
“Huh?” Sunao looked up. He definitely didn’t expect the detective to say that.
“It’s obvious you care for him.” Sunao blushed at this. They sat in an uncomfortable silence as the detective finished his cigarette. “Well anyway.” He said putting out his cigarette. “Let’s go out to eat!” He said breaking the tension.
“Huh?”
He smiled goofily. His whole manner was outrageous compared to that of the serious detective he had been a minute ago. “Dinner.” He leaned forward. “I want to take you out.”
“Eh? Is this part of your investigation?” He wondered confused.
“Nope!” He smiled goofily. Sunao thought this detective was really strange.
“But…”
“You discovered a dead body and your lover left you all in one day. You seem rather worn out so let me take you out to dinner to cheer you up a bit.” Ichihara explained.
“Oh… I… Ok…” He was slightly confused. Was this like a date?
“Ichihara-san…” Sunao started at dinner. “About Akihito…”
“Nope.” He held up his hand. “We’re through with talking about the case. This dinner was meant to distract you.”
They sat in silence and Sunao wondered what he should say. Ichihara broke the silence, “So tell me about yourself.” He asked his eyes sparkling. “What’s your family like?”
“I don’t have any family.” Sunao answered. “I grew up in an orphanage.”
“Oh… I’m sorry.” He said. Sunao shrugged. He was used to being an orphan especially by now at age 24. He was told that he lived with his mother until he could walk but he couldn’t remember her.
“Hmm…” Ichihara droned. “How did you become a fitness instructor?”
“Oh, I only do that in the off seasons.” Sunao explained.
“Off seasons?”
“I’m really a life guard and swimming instructor.”
“Ah. That would explain that tan.”
“Yeah, it never goes away even in the winter.”
“Hmm?” Ichihara rested his chin on his knuckles, his elbow propped up on the table. Sunao felt the man was teasing him and took a sip of his drink so he didn’t have to talk. Still, the man watched him.
“Do you like the food?” Ichihara wondered.
“Huh? Oh yeah.” He said looking down at his empty plate. He hadn’t even realized he was famished. He hadn’t eaten much all day.
“Good.” He beckoned the waiter for the bill. “And don’t worry about the cost. My treat!” He winked.
“But I… you didn’t have to take me to such an expensive place.” He was feeling a little uncomfortable despite Ichihara’s sparkling playful eyes.
“Don’t worry.” He said waving his hand. “As a detective I don’t really get out much.”
“But why are you doing this?”
Ichihara put his arm down on the table and looked at Sunao straight in the eye. “I like you.”
“What?” Sunao almost fell out of his chair. “But we only just met!”
“I know. It’s surprising, right? But when I first saw you… well is this what you call love at first sight?” He pronounced in English.
Sunao looked down. He immediately turned bitter. How many times had men told him sweet things but in the end they still left him?
“Nonsense.” He said. “Don’t mess with me.” Ichihara looked at him curiously seemingly unaffected by Sunao’s sudden change in attitude. “I’ve been hurt too many times to be able to believe you.” He said bitterly.
Ichihara leaned forward seriously. He scooted his hand right next to Sunao’s. “I wouldn’t hurt you.” He said and then smiled. “Shall we go, Sunao-san?” He said standing up but leaving his hand on the table next to Sunao.
“Are you really that famous of a detective?” Sunao wondered. “I’ve never heard of you before.” He admitted.
Ichihara shrugged. “I’m just good at my job. It becomes a hindrance sometimes.”
“Oh, how so?”
Ichihara smiled playfully. “For instance, now I want to find out everything about you.” He teased.
“Uh…”
Ichihara turned away and started walking again. “Solving murder mysteries is seemingly the only thing a detective is good for.” He explained seriously, putting a cigarette in his mouth. “Otherwise, they’re just annoying nosy people delving into other people’s business.” He said lighting and then taking a puff of his cigarette.
“Oh.” Sunao said. He had never though that detectives could be alienated due to their work. “Well this is my apartment.” Sunao mentioned.
“Ah yes. Get some sleep. I’ll talk to you tomorrow if I have any more questions.” He said flicking the cigarette onto the ground as he turned to leave.
“Ichihara!” He grabbed the detective’s arm. He really didn’t want to be alone right now. He knew he was probably just getting himself into a situation that would hurt him later. Finding Daiya dead had scared him and made him feel an almost painful loneliness in his chest. If what the detective had said was true, Akihito wouldn’t be able to comfort him especially if he were the cause of all this.
“Were you serious before?” He said shyly. “About liking me?”
In the dark, he couldn’t see the detective’s face. “Yes.” Ichihara said simply.
“Then… won’t you come in…?” He let his voice trail. The detective knew what he was asking. He grabbed Sunao and pressed him against the wall. Sunao gasped thinking for sure the detective was about to maul and ravish him. Ichihara leaned in, his breathe upon Sunao’s ear. Sunao closed his eyes in anticipation.
“I’m sorry, Sunao-san.” He said. Sunao’s eyes flew open as the detective hovered right next to him. “I’ll find Akihito and then you can be free.”
“What are you…?” Ichihara put his fingers upon his lips to hush him.
“I make it a point never to get involved with a client.” He said taking a step backwards. “So wait for me until I capture Ochida-san.” He said winking and pointing at the lifeguard. “I will definitely make you happy.” He promised turning away. Sunao watched him in awe as the ends of his trench coat trailed behind him in the wind.
After their passionate tryst in the fitness room, they had put their clothes back on in silence. Sunao remembered being surprised when Akihito had hugged him from behind. “Aki?” He wondered. He secretly hoped that this meant he had feelings for him but Akihito had let go and exited the room without a word. Who knew he left without any plans of returning.
The next day, Sunao had discovered Tsukano’s body and found out that Akihito was probably responsible for the young boy’s death. Sunao suspected that Akihito had planned on leaving right after they were done having sex. It hurt him to know that he was just being used though right now he was feeling sour as life at the gym returned to normal despite someone having died there.
The newspaper printed an article stating that Tsukano Daiya had died of a drug overdose in his home. Sunao was saddened that life was normal again. The cute gymnast had died but still the world went on. This scared him.
Detective Ichihara mostly kept his distance. Sunao couldn’t figure the detective out. He had confessed to him but then claimed he didn’t get involved with clients. He had hinted that he would pursue him after he caught Akihito but Sunao didn’t know whether to take him seriously or not.
He saw Ichihara once that week when Ichihara visited the gym again. “Have you found Ochida yet?” Sunao asked shyly.
Ichihara winked. “Nope, but we’re working on it.”
Sunao figured that he would never see Akihito again so he was surprised when the shady man responsible for Daiya’s death called him on his home phone. “Hello?” He answered.
“Instructor Sunao.” A deep voice breathed from the other end. He recognized it as Akihito’s immediately.
“Akihito!” He yelled and nearly dropped the phone. “What are you… why… the police are looking for you!” He sputtered
“I know,” he answered, “but I miss you.” Sunao dropped to his knees.
“Aki…”
It was more of those sweet words. “I want to see you again.” Akihito admitted.
“But… you can’t! The police will…”
“I needed to talk to you, Instructor… It is good to hear your voice.” Sunao could see the man’s teasing smile in his head. He felt relieved that Akihito was paying attention to him. “I want to see you again. I think we should live together.” He said.
“What?”
“Ever since I left, I couldn’t stop thinking about you…”
Sunao was desperate for love but he didn’t know if he could accept the love of a murderer. “Are you responsible for Daiya’s death?” Sunao demanded. “The detective said you were but I didn’t believe it.” He didn’t want to believe it. “It was someone else, wasn’t it?” He pleaded. It was quiet on the other end. “Akihito?”
“It was an accident.” He finally said. “I’ll explain myself and talk to you more later when I see you in person.”
In person? “But…”
“Think about what I said though. I was serious. I really do want you to live with me. I’ll see you later.” What was Akihito talking about? He was on the run. Surely it was impossible for them to live together.
“Wait… I… how is that…”
“I think I’m in love with you, Instructor Sunao.”
He was completely won over then. He knew he was. In the back of his mind, he felt like he was being toyed with but his longing to be loved made him forget it. “I’ll talk to you later, Sunao.” He said and hung up. For the rest of the night, Sunao couldn’t think of anything other than Akihito as if the man had put him under a spell.
Sunao was surprised to see Ichihara at the gym the next day. He knew he should tell the detective about the call but he just couldn’t. But it was almost like the detective suspected something as he stood before Sunao smiling almost mischievously.
“Sunao-san.” Ichihara started after a long awkward silence. “Is there something you want to tell me?”
“No I… I hope you solve the case soon.” He said forcing a smile.
“Don’t worry.” He winked. “I am now closer to catching Ochida than I ever was before.”
Sunao gulped. He felt guilty for keeping information from him. “And then after I catch him and do all the paperwork, this case will be officially closed and you will no longer be my client.” He said eyeing him.
Sunao shivered under his gaze. Ichihara stepped up to him and held his hand before Sunao’s face as if he were going to touch him. “Welp, wait for me until then, okay?” He said taking his hand away and leaning backwards playfully.
The lifeguard figured that Ochida Akihito had been all talk and really didn’t have any plans to see him. Yet, part of him couldn’t let the thought go that perhaps he was special to the man. Sunao sighed as he came out of the shower wearing his bathrobe and rubbing his hair dry. Akihito waited for him on the couch. “Yo.” The man waved.
“Aki!” He dropped the towel in surprise.
The man chuckled. “I said I wanted to see you, didn’t I?”
“But…”
“Have you thought about what I said?”
“But the murder!” He almost shouted. “Was it true you were dealing drugs?”
The man was quiet as he stared at the instructor. Sunao sat before the man pleadingly. “Akihito, tell me!” Akihito pet his wet hair and cupped his face.
“Yes it’s true but I didn’t kill Tsukano-san. He did that on his own by taking too many of those pills.”
“But you’re the one who gave them to him!” Sunao pulled away.
“Sunao, what do you want me to do?” The man shrugged. “I can’t bring him back from the dead. I was really scared that night and knew I had to skip town. But then I didn’t want to leave you.” He said reaching out to Sunao. “I love you.” He said gently kissing his forehead.
“No.” Sunao whispered. How many times had he heard those words? Those words were lies. Yet, he wanted to hear them. He was always swept away.
“Come with me, Instructor. I have a hideout in Tokyo. There are some friends who owe me a favor. We can live there.” He whispered while running his hand down the instructor’s chest.
“For how long?” Sunao wondered. How long would Akihito’s love for him last?
“Just until things blow over here.”
That was the wrong answer. Sunao wanted to hear forever. He tried to push Akihito away. “No. I don’t want to leave.”
He wasn’t sure if he said it because Akihito’s lips were smothering him. Sunao could barely breath. Akihito knew his weak points and he could feel himself getting dizzy. He couldn’t refuse the man now, could he?
He tried to speak but Akihito still held him in a smothering kiss so that his voice came out as a muffled murmur. He didn’t really want this, did he?
The door burst open just then and a figure in a trench coat jumped into the room. “Sunao-san!” He yelled. It was detective Ichihara. Both Akihito and Sunao looked up in surprise.
Akihito grabbed Sunao’s wrist. “A set up.” He concluded. “Did you set me up Instructor?” He growled.
“No… I…” Sunao was just as surprised by Ichihara’s presence.
“I’m afraid this is all my doing.” Ichihara announced. “I had Sunao’s apartment bugged without his knowing.”
“What?” Sunao exclaimed.
“You see I figured you would be back, Ochida-san.” Ichihara continued. “No one would leave a gorgeous man like Sunao alone for long.” He winked.
“Ichihara…” Sunao breathed in surprise.
“Now come with me quietly and turn yourself in. The police would like to talk to you and don’t think just because you have connections, you can get out of this easily.”
Akihito stood up and shrugged. “So what? I’ll have to pay a fine? The worst thing that’ll happen is I’ll have to go to jail for a year or two. I’ll be out soon enough…”
“Yeah, but a year or two is all I need to seduce Sunao Ebisu.” Ichihara claimed smiling haughtily from behind his long bangs. Sunao gasped. Was the detective serious?
Akihito and Ichihara stared at each other measuring the other up. Akihito tensed and clenched his fist. “In that case, I won’t go without a fight.”
“I have this place surrounded you know.” Ichihara warned.
“Then I’ll fight my way out.” He declared rushing at Ichihara with his fist pulled back.
“Stop!” Sunao yelled in fear as the men started fighting. Ichihara had dodged the punch, ducked and elbowed Akihito in the chin. Akihito had fallen backwards but not before grazing a punch across Ichihara’s forehead. Before Akihito could stand up, Ichihara had grabbed his wrists and handcuffed his hands behind his back.
“Never underestimate a detective!” Ichihara claimed stepping on him looking similar to a triumphant video game character.
“Ichihara!” Sunao yelled rushing to him. “You’re hurt.” He said touching the detective’s forehead.
Akihito chuckled from below and they looked down to see him gazing up at them. “I can tell when I’m beat.” He admitted flipping over to his side. “I’ll go quietly for now.” He said sitting up. Ichihara nodded satisfied and pulled him off the floor. “Take care of him, detective.” He said walking past Sunao.
“Aki…” Sunao breathed.
“If circumstances were different I really would have taken you with me, Instructor Sunao.” He said.
After Akihito had been brought to the police car, Ichihara came back. “Sunao…” He started but Sunao backed away from him.
“Remove the bugs.” He demanded.
Ichihara was quiet but then complied and took a device out of the phone. “I’m sorry, Sunao-san.” He said solemnly.
“I don’t appreciate being used as bait.” He said. “And you did it without my permission!”
“I told you… we detectives are nosy people.”
“But still…”
“I want to know everything about you Sunao-san.” Ichihara admitted. “But I won’t use something like a wiretap to figure you out.”
“What?” Sunao backed up only to find his back to the wall. “I was jealous of your feelings for Ochida. I promise you, I will win you over so that you will never think of him again.” He said his arms protectively on both sides of Sunao. “I like you, Sunao-san.” He said.
Sunao noted that he said like instead of love. But even so, it was more of those sweet words.
“But… you don’t know me.” Sunao said slightly panicking. He couldn’t handle so much excitement in one day. First, Akihito and now Ichihara? He tried to get Ichihara to back off by saying, “I’m not a good person.”
Ichihara’s hand gently slid under his chin. “But everything I learn about you makes me like you even more.” He smiled. Ichihara wasn’t going to back down. He leaned forward about to kiss him. Sunao panicked and looked for a way out.
“I’m still your client!” He shouted stopping Ichihara who looked at him in surprise.
“What?”
“You said after you catch Akihito AND fill out all the paperwork that the case would be closed. Until then…” Sunao slipped out of his grasp and looked back bitterly. “I am still your client.”
Ichihara laughed. “You’re right, Sunao-san.” He said. “But you see I hate paperwork and I have a secretary but she says I have to help her but I don’t want to…” He complained looking like a child trying to get out of his chores.
“But… it’s your job…” Sunao said in disbelief that he was even having this conversation.
“Hmph! Very well!” Ichihara decided. He hugged Sunao close to him surprising the instructor. “I will win you over.” He promised. He let go and winked at the man.
“You’ll see Sunao Ebisu! I will make you the happiest man in Japan!” He swore pointing at the surprised lifeguard. Sunao thought he was really strange but also charming in a way.
Ichihara Shinsuke turned and walked out the door, the tails of his trench coat trailing in the wind. Sunao would never admit it, but he thought the detective looked kind of cool…
Next chapter: Ichihara is on a mission to find out everything he can about Sunao. This somewhat intimidates the shy lifeguard. To remedy this, the detective takes Sunao to his work where he meets a violent woman.
Author notes: I already have this story posted on a yaoi exclusive forum but I wanted to know what the fictionpress people thought. I don't know if it was apparent but I was a little weary to be posting something this "mature" on this site as most of my stuff is PG13 or lower. I'm still a little shy. Well if this story doesn't go anywhere I'll probably take it off. Review and let me know if you would like me to contiue. Ahk! I'm so shy... eh heh.
