Author Note:

The title of this story, ‘Changing Tracks’, is taken from a feature on BBC Radio One (Jo Whiley’s show). It is a feature about how songs have changed people’s lives, and I am in the process of requesting official permission to use it as the title for this - it fits the story better than anything else. No copyright infringement intended or to my knowledge.

For Aimee, in the hope the something will, one day, fill Bella's hole.

Prologue

A song can change your life. At the time, if, like me, you are buried at the bottom of the blackest pit, you will probably find that impossible to believe.

When, suddenly, everything that was anything to you is dragged out from beneath you and thrown away, there is always a voice inside your head which tells you nothing will ever be the same again.

And you know what?

That voice is right.

Nothing will be the same again. But that doesn’t mean that it has to be the end, for you. You can pick up the pieces, and you can try to stick them back together as best as possible, using your song as the glue.

It is never the end. Believe me. There is always something to live for.
