I'll Follow The Moon For You

I’ll follow the moon

Through a moonless night;

I’ll search for your face in the sun of a cloudless sky.

And if the stars refuse to shine,

Well, I brought along a flashlight

Who says it won’t be brighter.

.

Miles of barren desert

Never discourage my hopes;

A flower from home lies in my hand if no other flowers grow.

And if it refuses to settle in the dry dirt,

Well I brought along a spade-

I would dig as far as water flows

And as long as the fall of rain

.

That’s how much I long for you

That’s how much I need

My sorry shoulder against your chest

If not for you, then for me

.

I’ll search through a spyglass

From an ancient pirate ship;

The frail maps that so long ago led someone else’s trip

Now guide me in the day,

By evening the North Star appears,

I feel less alone, less full of fear,

For I know I am on the right bearing and steady shall I steer.

.

Treks that leave behind

Footprints in the snow;

Well at least I know where I came from, if not where I intend to go.

And if the clouds open again and wash my imprints from the ground,

I’ll settle myself with the knowledge that I cannot be found.

For if someone dare interrupt my search, my quest.

Help them God because You are the one searched for best

.

That’s how much I long for you

That’s how much I need

My sorry shoulder against your chest

If not for you, then for me

.

And when I find you,

All hope will be lost.

I‘m back at my starting place

Losing that old coin toss

That set me back so far in life that I had to seek to find

What once, at a certain point,

Had been so easily mine.

.

That’s how much I longed for you

That’s how much I needed

My sorry shoulder against your chest

If not for you, then for me
