Tumble Down

How come I can just forget you and let it all slip to darkness?
Your voice fades to whisper, your face blurs in my mind
All I remember is the feel of your body beneath my fingers
And my heart jumping at the chance to be next to you

No photos and memories grow faint
No recordings left on my answering machine
No one’s there but a ghostly breeze
Stirring the goosebumps on my arms

I’m lost in this summer of emptiness
There’s nothing to do and no one I want to do it with
You’re gone and I’m left here waiting for this to be over
Will we be the same when we meet again?

It isn’t much, I won’t demand any more than those
Small guilty pleasures we share
I know I can’t compare to her

But maybe when your heart has healed a bit, you’ll look at me
And instead of kissing me goodbye and thanking me for the night
You’ll ask to spend another day by my side
