Roots and Wings

It’s time to say goodbye now

To my past life

And enter the inevitable

Passages of time

.

I’m leaving one chapter of my life called childhood

And I’m all full grown now

But no door closes without another opening

And I am entering

A new section of time

.

Slowly page through the memories

And laugh and cry

Smile and shed tears

At all those past times

.

You’ve given me roots

And they have stayed me beautifully

But now it’s time to pull on them a bit

And use the wings you’ve also given me

To fly

.

Yes it’s tough to leave what you once called home

But it’s important to remember that

A part of you lingers

In all the places of your past

For you leave behind a bit of yourself

In all the places that you’ve been
