Well, this is actually a bonus story since the new version will be a lot different and be taken to a whole new direction in terms of plot and characters. I wasn't planning to post this but I decided, that since this is the first Manga-base story I created and only finished the first part, might as well let readers see how far I came to be where I am at now. The story plot itself is an on-going project since 2001 and that the first part been changed more times than I could possibly kept track, so like over 20 revisions.
Anyways, please enjoy... Please review and tell me anything you like, don't like, is confuse about something or just want to ask me a question. Have fun and thank you.
Episode 01
Child Born of Omanee
In the Distant Future
MONDAY
It is the month of April and the day starts out just like any other cloudy morning day in Cali City. Since it is after Spring Break, the students are usually up, are getting ready for school or are already at school. The students of Cali Academy have their own dorm-like apartments located around the school premises. These apartments are built so that the students are able to arrive on time without having to face the problems of morning rush-hour traffic. Also, each dorm is standard equipped with a single bed, a desk featuring the latest computer for research and a single dresser for clothes. But each dorm is different from each other as the students are also different by their own sense of individuality. So never expect one dorm to look similar to another.
One of these students of Cali Academy that lives in the apartment dorms is a fourteen year-old boy named Zane Gaian. Unlike the other students, Zane has extreme difficulties waking up and staying awake, as he is always late for his first period every single school day. Zane is a typical person that seems to stay out of trouble and tends to stay out of everyone’s attention. Overall, he is shy, a bit clumsy and holds a lot of secrets, which he keeps to himself. Zane Gaian has been an orphan since anybody can remembered when he first mysterious showed up and the sensei of the local martial arts school has adopted him. So everyday he has been training after school till nightfall and goes to his apartment to do his homework. What makes this day special to any other days is that his room is empty this morning.
Cali City is located on a somewhat small island all by itself right besides the state of California where it’s name originates. The city itself is located mainly on the western half and only covers two thirds of the island. The other third is the forest and the mountains located on the far east of the island. There is also a spot that is neither part of the city nor the forest but a garden of such magnitude close to the school, which is common for lovers to go. The exotic trees, similar to cherry blossoms in Japan, overrun this place as their leaves bloom a wide rang of different colors. Every morning, the wind will cause a sudden breeze that will stir these trees and blows the multi-colored petals off the benches, showering the area with dazzling colors.
In the center of this area, completely surrounded by the trees and by the swarming of petals in the air, is a boy lying down soundly asleep. He has black hair that comes over and curves down his forehead almost reaching his eyes as the back is spiking in different directions. He wears the Academy’s uniform consisting of a black dress shoes, black slacks, white buttoned-up silk shirt and a black blazer that is zipped all the way up. His skin is lightly tanned and his complexion of his face appears to be very young looking and very innocent. He has his hands clasp behind his head and is using his backpack as a pillow while he is slowly drifting in his seemingly peaceful looking sleep. Standing not too far from him is somebody that looks exactly like him but his clothes are baggy looking and has a more serious look.
“They are coming. I wonder if you are prepared. It is all up to you now,” he slowly whispers as the petals gently glide around his body and he slowly fades away.
The boy slowly opens his eyes but not all the way, showing his dark hazel brown eyes, which is aimlessly starring at the light blue sky. His body is lightly covered with white, blue, pink, green, yellow, orange, red gray, and brown petals from the numerous surround trees. His eyes mildly glimmer from the sunrays that are glaring down on him while he continues to gaze at the morning sky. His mind wonders back to his dream, remembering clearly what has happened. He has dreamt that there was a war on a planet far away a very long time ago. This dream was so real that he has thought that he was actually there. He begins to wonder if it really did happened and someone is calling out to him. He instantly brushes it to the side and tries to think of something calmer.
He closes his eyes one more trying to drift back to sleep but his watch alarm begins to bee at him, which irritates him. He tries to ignore it but the beeping continues and he immediately brings his left arm to his face so he can do something about it. He slowly opens his eyes and squints them from the intense brightness of the sun since he isn’t use to it just yet. His eyes widen as he looks at the time but instinctively close them, as he is still not use to the brightness of the sun just yet. The boy moves around, tries to stand up, picking up his backpack off the ground with his right hand and then swings it over his shoulder. He cautiously looks around just in case someone was watching him but sees no one so he tilts his head downward and begins walking slowly towards the academy.
Has it really been one week sine Spring Break started? It went by faster than I thought being alone. The boy starts to think to himself, walking calmly towards the school. In couple minutes, the academy becomes clear and he hears the bell ringing off in the distance, telling that school is about to start in any moment now. He picks up his pace and begins sprinting through the tress toward the school before he is late, again.
With two minutes left before the school begins, he stops running in front of the school’s building with time to spare. He immediately bends down with both hands on his knees, and takes deep breathe so he doesn’t appear that he has been running for miles before he got here. Several seconds later he stands up straight, swings his backpack over his shoulder and calmly walks forward just like any other day. He walks up the steps to the school’s main building entrance and went inside, seeing that nobody is lounging in the hallways and are entering their classes. He puts his backpack in his locker and walks to the other side of the school where his first period is at and opens the door the second the bell rings.
Cali Academy is three-stories high and is big enough to let enough students that are ranging from grade seventh to twelfth grade. The school consists of three buildings with two long buildings are parallel to each other on opposite sides of the third. The third building is longest of all three and it is horizontal from the other two, acting as the main building. Between these three building is a wide-open space for students to converse during free period and also for other things like special events. The other end of the two parallel building is a large open field for grass sports that can be played and is surrounded by fences, which blocks unauthorized entrance from outside. This is Cali Academy, the school where this story really begins and the city where the events unfold.
Off in the distance from the school on top of a fence, which overlooks the academy, is a mysterious looking figure in a long black trench coat and a hood shadowing his face. The figure grabs the side of the trench coat, pulls it off of him and swings his arm to the side, letting it go as the wind carries it off. He is now wearing; black boots, baggy pants tuck in his boots, and a long sleeve shirt that is tuck in his pants. He also wears a black jacket from an unknown material that goes down his body, stopping about several inches from his knees, and he also has the front unzipped. He has black short hair that spikes outward but curves down at the tips and also has unusual gray eyes that seem alien like. His face appears to be young but his eyes reveal deep sorrow in his heart and many secrets.
“This is the place. The planet known as Earth to the habitants and where I should find what I’m looking for,” the mysterious figure says out loud, jumping up and quickly vanishes.
The same boy from earlier is lazily sitting at his desk while the professor lectures the class and he’s starring aimlessly outside. He prop his head up with his right hand by his elbow resting against his desk and his head turn towards the window. He slowly closes his eyes as all the sounds from the professor and the quiet chatter by classmates begin to fade away to nothingness. His mind is completely blank and thinks of nothing till the clearing in the garden gradually appears in his mind. He opens his eyes and they instantly widen, as he is now standing in the garden and is surrounded by the multi-colored leaves from the trees. A strong gust of wind stirs the trees and causes most of the leaves to come off the branches, showering the area completely with vibrant colors.
“The time is drawing near. Are you prepared to accept your fate? It is all up to you on how you want to begin and how it’s going to end. Don’t stay in the past. Move on with your life.”
The boy frantically begins looking around as the words continue to echo and he doesn’t know who’s saying them to him. He then makes a full turn and stops as he looks in front of him, seeing somebody that looks like him but more mature. The person turns around and begins to walk away as the boy tries to catch up, but the figure slowly disappears as the boy continues to run. He suddenly opens his eyes and lifts his head off his desk, leaning straight up at the back of his seat. He sees the professor still going on with his lecture as the boy sighs a bit of relief and sinks in his chair. He turns his head towards the window and looks outside seeing the multi-colored leaves are blowing in the quad. He then looks back in front of the class and notice the same person is standing there.
A loud ringing sound shatters the image and he suddenly opens his eyes, where he is still holding his head up, and the bell for class to be over is ringing. He quickly shakes his head to get back into reality and immediately gets off his seat, heading towards the exit of the class. He now makes his way towards the cafeteria, and goes to the nearest food stand, where he orders his usual combo of a pizza and a soda. He then heads to the table he always sits at and begins eating his pizza until he looks up, seeing the girl of his dreams. She slowly walks pass his table, but with his imagination, she is gracefully gliding across in front of him. She has brown hair that endlessly cascade down her body and her glimmering brown eyes, which are narrow wide. Her small, perky nose a mouth full and wide and a body that is made for modeling. His senses blacken everything around him as he only focus on the girl, which seems to be the only thing matters to him.
“Earth to Zane. Stop drooling,” somebody says startling him, “Keep it up and they might think you’re a dog.”
“Huh, what?” Zane quickly asks himself out loud, shaking his head and sees the girl is now sitting down with the so-called popular people. He shakes his head again, trying to get his act back to normal and quickly looks back at his table, seeing his three best friends; Egel, Tony and Cory.
“You will never get any girls unless you go up to them and at least talk to one,” Egel tells him, as Zane looks at his friend awkwardly. Egel is the second tallest of the group, with Zane being the tallest. He is very wise for his
young age and is basically nice to everyone. The two has been friends since the year before and now they have been hanging out ever since.
“Easier said than done. I don’t even know what to talk about. Even if I do talk to her and have something to say, I can’t even talk straight every time I am near her,” Zane solemnly replies, sitting back in his chair and looking up at the ceiling.
“Don’t give up man,” Tony cuts in. Tony is the next shortest of the group has the darkest skin of the three. He is usually cheerful and always seen smiling for whatever reasons. Other than Zane, Tony is very quiet and usually jokes only with the ground when he is feeling bored. The three of them has also been friends since the year before and they are usually seen hanging out together.
“What is so hard talking to a girl anyways,” Cory asks them. Cory is the shortest of the group and sometimes people think he is an elementary because of how short he is. He is over cheerful and has lots to say to keep up on what is going on with the group and others. He is also considered one of the so-called popular typed of people, but he doesn’t really like the attention so he sticks with the other three.
“I don’t know. I think I am scared of getting turned down I guess. I mean somebody like me who isn’t popular is trying to ask the hottest girl in school to go out. I mean, how cliché can I get for an unpopular guy unable to ask the all-time most popular girl to go out with him. I want to ask her out so badly but I guess I’m just scared that she is going to turn me down and that I’ll also be the joke of the school. I can picture it now: “The most unpopular guy got dissed and burned by school’s hottie. Live video recording of it going down is on sale now and act now for most embarrassing acts tape.””
“Hey man, it’s better to ask now and to know the answer than to cover in the shadows never actually knowing the answer might be,” Egel tells Zane, trying to be at least helpful to his deprive friend.
“I know what you mean but what if she says no? If that happens then I’ll be crushed and I don’t know if I can ever live with that.”
“Geez man, why are you been so damn pessimistic. I mean c’mon. I think if you ask her out with confidence then she most likely say yes to you. I heard from most girls that having confidence while talking or being with them makes them really impress.” Cory explains to them as he is nodding and agreeing to his own theory.
“You must be right Core. If I talk to her with confidence then she will be impressed that someone like me is able to talk to her without being scared.”
“For goodness sake, talk to her!” the three says to Zane.
Zane drops his head down from looking at the ceiling to his friends but suddenly catches sight of his dream girl walking pass his table again. His eyes grow wider and he is able to hear his heart beating faster and faster at each passing second while he watches her move with such grace. His eyes linger towards the side seeing somebody tall and big coming straight at her, while she casually looks back to her friends and laughing. When she is directly in front of the table, the person purposely bumps into her, knocks her down and her stuff scatters all over the ground. Zane eyes went narrow with shock and he is surprise that anybody would be that stupid to dump into somebody like her. He then focuses on who bumped into her and sees that he looks striking familiar, but something about him has changed and can’t really tell whom he really is.
“You should move of the way when you had the chance!” the bully snarls at the girl, looking at her angrily, not caring if she has gotten hurt.
“What was that all about?” Zane thinks out loud to himself, getting angry towards the person who has bumped into the girl of his dreams. “Who does he thinks he is to do something like that and doesn’t even apologize,” Zane utters out loud again, losing control of his anger.
“Uh Zane man, you should keep it down a little before something happens like drawing attention to yourself,” Tony tries to tell Zane, trying to keep his emotions under control.
“Hell no! I can’t let this slide when it happened right in front of me and definitely if it involves her!”
“It’s no big deal man. Just sit down and think before you do anything crazy.”
“Sorry guys but I can’t let this go no matter what,” Zane says, looking at his three friends and then points at the bully, who has bumped in his dream girl, “Hey you!”
The bully turns around, looking at Zane directly and then makes a fist with both of his hands, “What do you want you punk ass little asshole.”
Zane stands up quickly, causing his chair behind him to be pushed back by the force of his sudden movements, and he then closes his eyes. He immediately slams his right hand down on the table, making a loud bang and causes everyone to jump and freeze in place, looking at him. “I’d been watching this school for days and I seen all kinds of troublemakers do the worst crime I ever wanted to see. But today, you just did once crime that is just one too many and I will not let this one go. Trying to figure out what I’m talking about? You just had bumped into a girl that for
the longest time I had a crush on and I will never allow you to get away from that! I hereby declare my crush for her so I’ll protect her if I must and not let you go unpunished!”
Zane yells out his long speech, opening his eyes once he is done and glares at the bully, with an extremely confident look as everyone is admiring his sudden confidence. His outburst surprises the bully but doesn’t’ frighten him one bit and begins to check to himself. Dianna looks stun and surprise that Zane just said what he just admitted about his feelings toward her. She tilts her head down and looks to the side thinking that she shouldn’t have planned this. She then lifts up her head and thinks about the situation. She’s a very popular girl and if she allows herself to feel this way then she would lose her position as most popular girl in the school. She won’t allow herself to have feelings with someone like him.
“Alright asshole, let’s do this right now outside. We fight to see if you are able to protect her like you said,” the bully calls out, pointing at Zane smiling and then walks outside.
“Okay I guess,” Zane whispers softly, losing his fiery confidence and falls back down in his chair, as he doesn’t know how to fix this mess.
Everyone begins to get out of their seats and rushes outside, following the bully outside towards the quad. Zane hesitantly gets out of his seat and is the last one walking towards the exit, till he senses something behind him and turns around. He sees something standing in the center of the deserted cafeteria with a coat covering his whole body and a hood, concealing its face. Zane stands still as he narrow his eyes and instinctively gets down into a fighting stance. Something about this person is giving him an extremely weird vibe and he can’t shake it or ignore it, as it is a cold feeling throughout his body.
“You’re the one,” the mysterious person says with a male voice, echoing throughout the room.
“What are you talking about?” Zane asks confuse.
“Yes, you are the one that we been looking for.”
“Who are you and what do you want!”
“Been searching for ten years to find you and you turned up on this backwatered planet.”
“Since you aren’t answering any of my questions I’m out of here,” Zane says, turning around and runs out.
Zane runs out of the building and into quad where half of the school is waiting patiently for him to show and some actually think he won’t show up. As Zane walks through the crowd of students and towards the center, knowing full well that there is no teacher supervision and that means the person can do whatever he wants with him. Zane finally gets through the crowd and stands in next to his three best friends while the crowd behind him cheers for him. The girl is standing in front of the crowed directly between the two, as she make it seems she doesn’t’ really care who’s the victor of fight. The four can hear the wild chanting of Zane’s name and the bully’s name, which Zane can make out, but doesn’t really care whom the guy is.
“That person that bumped into Zane’s dream girl looks so familiar,” Egel, tells them, placing his right hand under his chin.
“It has been a long Spring Break and I can’t believe that I didn’t’ recognize him at first. The crowd seems to be betting on the two now and the odds are against you twenty to one,” Tony says, listening to the crowd.
“So no one is really suspecting me to win eh?” Zane mutters, eyes now narrow and focus because of the odds.
“We got your back until he decides to come after us,” Cory tells Zane, patting him on the back.
“I appreciate it guys but I can handle this alone if you don’t mind. The only thing you can do now is to give me some sort of cheering support,” Zane says to them and begins walking to the center of the open area.
The mysterious looking figure from earlier appears standing on top of the school’s fence and is watching the upcoming fight in the distance. “He’s the one,” the figure whispers.
Zane and Robert meets in the center of the clearing and they both get ready to fight, while the crowd is cheering and betting who is going to win. Robert stands close to six feet tall even at his young age with skinny yet muscular tan body and has an attitude to fit his profile. He turns his head to the side, spitting towards the ground and begins to laugh as the kids try to step back before anything lands on them. Zane gets into a stance familiar to his teaching, acting very nervous and embarrass, while Robert just stands there with his arms across his chest. For a few minutes, none of them move a muscle and the crowd slowly comes to a complete silence, waiting impatiently for what’s going to happen. Tied of waiting, Robert extends on of his arms out and waves his hand back and forth to provoke Zane to come at him.
Zane starts off with a quick sprint towards his opponent and begin attacking with a right punch, which hits Robert at the left side of his jaw. The strength of the punch forces Robert to look in the direction he was hit as Zane does a left punch and hits the right side of his opponent’s jaw. Zane quickly arches his right arm back and then lunges it forward, hitting Robert in his chest as Zane finishes it off with a spinning roundhouse kick to the chest. The force of the two hits on Robert’s chest only pushes him back as he moves his head side to side, cracking it and then brushes off the area where Zane hit him. The whole basic fighting sequence last for several seconds and only causes
Robert to laugh out loud since the attacks didn’t hurt him. The crowd looks amaze to see Zane fighting like that but shakes their head side to side seeing how weak he is.
“If that’s all you got then you lost before this even started!” Robert calls out laughing.
“Shit,” Zane whispers to himself, stepping back as he underestimated the bully’s strength.
“That’s weird?” Egel questions Zane’s action, as he knows that Zane can do much more.
“What is he doing?” Cory asks the two also knowing full well that Zane can do better.
“He’s not trying to hurt him I guess,” Tony thinks of something.
“Why? I mean isn’t this all about the one he has a crush on? So what is he doing?” Cory asks them.
“There is nothing we can do right now. We have to wait and see the outcome of this,” Egel quietly says to the two.
“He’s going to let Robert kick his ass right?” Cory spats.
“Most likely,” Tony responds.
“If he doesn’t get sympathy points from losing then I give up on helping him get a girlfriend,” Cory says, folding his arms over his chest.
“He be fine no matter what,” Egel tells them and rubs Cory’s head.
Robert unfolds his arms and closes in on Zane, as he begins punching him all over without holding back his strength. Each blow to Zane’s body causes him to move in the angle of the attack and is going in odd direction. Robert hits Zane in the jaw with all of his strength to back it up, causing blood to come out of Zane’s mouth and falls to the ground badly beaten. Robert bends down grabbing Zane’s blazer collar and lifts him up as he launches his right fist into Zane’s face repeatedly. After a while, he shoves Zane back on the ground and begins kicking his side, causing Zane to roll across the clearing till he stops rolling. Robert walks up to Zane, as he is getting, and kicks his side causing Zane to fall back down. The mysterious person on the fence closes his eyes and begins laughing to himself but immediately begins laughing hysterically.
“You’re losing but you haven’t lost yet,” the mysterious person whisper, with his arms crossed over his chest.
Robert bends down, grabs Zane collar again and lifts him up to his face, “Did you actually think you will win against me?”
“I told you he would take the bait. Isn’t this better than just fighting him just because? You also won against his pride this way,” a female voice says, getting closer to them.
Zane hears the female voice but his eyes are close and can’t really see whom the voice belongs to. After a few seconds of silence, he slowly opens his eyes just enough to see but not enough for anybody know that his eyes are open. He sees the girl that he has a crush on is hugging the bully that has bump into her back in cafeteria. The girl suddenly kisses the guy and everything within Zane’s mind snap apart and went blank. Zane closes his eyes tighter, not believing what he just saw and then he realizes what Egel meant when the guy looks familiar. Zane begins cussing to himself for being such a fool for doing what he did in the cafeteria and saying what he did. The bully he is fighting is Robert, the boyfriend of his dream girl who is Dianna and they have been dating all year. Love sucks.
“Did you hear that asshole? It was all a set up by her. I got tired of you keep looking at my girl and was about to get up to kick your ass right there and then. But she thought of an excuse for me to fight you since she knew all long that you had a crush on her. Her plan work out perfectly if I do say so myself,” Robert spats in Zane’s face as he continues to hold him.
Zane slowly opens his eyes again, but this time he opens them all the way now and stares at the two with an unusual look. “Things are going to get interesting from here on out,” Tony says to the two.
“I see what you mean,” Egel slowly responds.
“Finally, is Zane going to kick his ass now?” Cory asks them, grinning.
“It’s not about Zane kicking Robert’s ass even if it would be quite entertaining. The real winner is Dianna since she has won against Zane’s emotional feelings towards her.”
“She’s cold for doing that. I wonder how much it will affect him,” Tony cuts in.
Zane suddenly grabs Robert’s right wrist, which is still holding him, quickly twists it as Robert lets go and Zane safely lands on the ground. Dianna moves out of the way once Zane lands and Robert punches him to force him let go of his wrist. Zane takes several steps back by the force of the punch and tires to regain balance. He tilts his head down shadowing his eyes by his hair, and makes a tight fist with both of hands, causing his knuckles to crack. Zane just stands there as his eyes staring aimlessly at the ground and doesn’t believe that Dianna is a type of girl that does that. Robert isn’t going to get away for what he has done to him and he will personally take him down. Zane slightly tilts his head up as he extends his right arm straight out in front of him and moves his index finger to provoke Robert to come at him.
The bully moves Dianna further aside and rushes toward Zane with his right arm arch back behind him. He does a quick right hook towards Zane as he reaches him, but Zane moves his upper body slightly to the side and barely
dodges the fist. Robert begins swinging his right and left fists at Zane, while stepping forward, but Zane dodges all of them with pure ease as he steps back to Robert’s movements. About several minutes of Robert going all out on Zane, Zane launches his right fist against Robert’s guard but he slips downward and kicks Zane in the shin, forcing him to suddenly kneel down. Without able to do anything about the situation, Zane’s fist heads downward to the ground and his fist collides against it, causing a minor quake and his fist now several inches deep in the hard cement.
“What the hell was that?” Robert yells out scared as he begins crawling backwards on the ground.
“That’s something you won’t see everyday,” Tony mutters.
“Is that his true strength or is that just a sample of it?” Cory turns to the two.
“Shut up you two,” Egel tells the two.
Zane stands up straight shaking his right hand to get the cement pieces and the dust off of his hands. He then looks at his hand and see that there are no cuts or that none of his bones seem to be broken. He looks up to see Robert standing up several yards away and continues walking backwards in fear of Zane’s strength. Zane rushes towards Robert with his right arm arch back and swings his fist but Dianna suddenly gets in the way. She closes her eyes while Zane’s fist heads straight towards her but he quickly stops and his fist only millimeters from her face. His eyes become wider, and contracted from what Dianna just did while several trails of tears went down his face. He withdraws his arm back as he turns around and walks away but there is a sudden blow to the back of his head that causes him to fall towards the ground. He catches himself by his arms but there is another blow to his back and he collapse.
“You almost hit my girl! Where is this justice you been talking about? I’m going to show you my way on how to punish someone,” Robert shouts. Robert begins kicking Zane on the ground for several minutes and knocks Zane out completely in the first minute.
Dianna runs to him and begs him to stop because she thinks he is killing him but Robert ignores her. After a while, his ambitions are getting the best out of him and he roughly pushes her away which knocks her down. With Dianna out of the way, he begins to kick Zane more furiously and everyone sees blood is freely flowing out of Zane’s open mouth like water. The bell rings and Robert finally decides to walk away not because he thinks that Zane has enough, but because he is getting tired of kicking him. He walks pass the girl like he doesn’t even care about her one bit this whole entire time, and he only wants to show everyone what happens if they look at his girl. Dianna begins to have tears in her eyes and embarrassingly runs back inside the school. With Dianna gone and Robert is walking calmly through the crowd, everyone continues to stare at beat up kid on the ground.
“What just happened?” the mysterious person asks out loud, “He had him on the ropes but why did he stop? I’m sure that he is one but why did he lose? Blast it, I need to speak to him when’s alone.”
