Gravedigger

-

El na refa na lah;

please God, bring healing

-

I sink-

heels kissing earth

in mockery, lacking only

an epitaph, to

-

lower heads, drop eyes-

but not to you

who lies quietly in our midst,

cold and beautiful, waiting whilst

-

stones crumble

eroding no slower

than their contents

which remain hidden, humiliated, I

-

weep

-

"Y'hei sh'lama raba min sh'maya"

-

May there be abundant peace from heaven.
