The moon hangs

deep in the black sky’s pool

A chalky light

defying gravity

silently

It seems so small and smooth and plain

our lifeless satellite

and brightest night-light

who wards off monsters

with gentle fingers

We cannot see her face

(shy thing that she is)

but must wonder

eternally

at what lies

on the dark side.
