there's a chance for me
to radiate something back to you
something I'd thought long gone but now
I see it reflected in your face when you look at me
do you see it too?

maybe I have a chance
and track records count for nothing now
and the past is too heavy to think of so
I think of you instead.

maybe it's too much responsibility to feel like
I should do this right
so you keep that bright beautiful outlook
and not grow into bitterness
maybe that's too much to hope for
