Six months before first chapter

He was stomping from one side of the room to the other; “You just don’t get it, Bonny - you’re so fucking clueless and it’s driving me insane!”

She stared at him in confusion, “What on earth are you talking about? I’ve been told I’m very perceptive, actually.” She sniffed.

He gripped her shoulders and pulled her up from the arm of the sofa she was perched on top of, “Except for when it comes to you, Bon.” He shook her lightly and then put her back down, continuing with his heavy pacing.

“Will you please stand still – Mother’s just had this carpet put in, I don’t think she’d appreciate your putting a hole through it.”

He stopped and fell to his knees in front of her, “I love you, Ebony. I fucking love you, and I’ve been trying to tell you that for the past thirteen months.”

She blinked down at him, “You…you complete idiot!” She pushed him away, “How can you say that!? You haven’t been doing anything other than acting completely normal!”

She started muttering something about teenage American romance novels.

He looked down at the floor, dejectedly, slowly getting up off his knees, “I’m sorry, I’m…just going to go…see you around.”

She spun around as he was about to walk through the living room door, “You get your arse back here, Sebastian David Richett; I am not done with you.” She growled.

He froze mid-step, gulped, and slowly turned back around, his eyes staying glued to the floor.

He could see a finger pointing at the sofa from the corner of his eye, and he shuffled over to it fearfully, keeping his eyes on his feet as his sat down in a dejected manner.

“You dare come in here, wear down Mother’s expensive new carpet and proclaim you love for me without allowing me to do you the same courtesy?”

Sebastian raised his head slightly. Dare he hope? “Eb-“

“No. You let me rant all I bloody well want, how could you? You have shown no emotion to me what-so-ever other than that of a friendly attitude? How do you expect me to believe you when I have seen no proof? No proof at all of the fact that, apparently, you ‘love’ me? And just what is love anyway? How could you possibly love me? Me, it’s just...it isn’t right! You are...you are Sebastian Richett, for Kami sake! And me? I’m just-“

“Fantastic, loving, kind, smart – all of these things and more. Please, please Ebony, I beg of you, believe me – I do love you. I can’t tell you what love is, it’s just what I feel when I am around you – I can’t not be happy when I’m around you – you’re addictive. I need you in my life, Ebony, and not just as a friend. I need you, I want you...I love you.”

Silence surrounded the pair.

Ebony started pounding her fists against his chest and he winced in pain, “You jerk! You absolute jerk! You know that I can’t resist it when people are like that! Damn it, I can’t stay mad at you! Why?! Just...ugh.” Her fists uncurled and dropped like weights to her sides, she pressed her head limply against him and sighed heavily, “I love you, too, Sebastian...but...” she looked up warily, “what would the others say? We...we can’t tell them.” She shook her head as it was still resting against him, her hair mousing up at the top, “They’ll shun us...”

Sebastian wrapped his arms around her slowly, pressing her to him, “Then, though I hate the idea, we’ll keep it to ourselves. Just for now.” Her lifted her chin, “I don’t want to keep it a secret, but...if that’s what you want...”

Ebony smiled softly, “Just for now, Koishii. Just for now...”

-laughs- Sorry for the Japanese I threw in there – I’ve been watching subtitled anime, and I keep picking up words and dialect. ^^;
