sun, shadows

written: 9.8.08

.

the woods

—dark, enveloping

.

sun cutting low

long black reflections

of tall tipping trees

cast across the ground,

slanting

merging

growing

.

golden paths unfurling

straight clear beams

spreading

—draping across rough brown bark

outlining the

sighing green leaves

in lemon yellow

thin spindling skeletons

branching, splitting

.

revealed—

dark green

.

ground soft, dark, moist

footfalls muffled,

near-silent

.

reverence

.

cool air, crisp, fleeting

against face,

sliding cold fingers

across burning skin

.

easing the ache this

golden shadow-crossed

beauty

.

strikes into my limbs

my eyes

my bones
