Uhhh... stupid school... homework... ewww... but great for dreaming up new stories.

"I can't believe I'm sick on my sweet 16!"

Katheryn Hawthorn was, to say the least, very pissed off. This was her birthday, her party, and she had a fever? "My party is ruined!" she moaned, knowing full well know one was there to here her.

It was supposed to be my party.

The voice that exploded into her head was soft, beauiful, sad. It sounded like Kathy's voice as it was in a home video at age 14, if someone had turned the volume down a bit. She jumped, the sheets wrapped around her moving with her.

You weren't supposed to have this party. It was supposed to be mine.

"The fever must be affecting my brain." Kathy muttered to her self. Looking in the mirror, she saw that she looked completly normal. Her black hair, cut in a short, edgy 'do, was sweaty and matted to her head. Circles were under her stunning blue eyes. She looked sick, not crazy.

It's mine. Give it back.

"MOM!" Kathy screamed, genuenly scared now.

No one can hear you, Kathy. I've waited so long. This should be my birthday.

The voice went from sounding sad to having an edge to it, not at all unlike a child who is getting away with something they shouldn't. It chilled Kathy to the bone.

"What... what do you want from me?"

It should have been my party.

The voice sounded angry, like someone who had been cheated.

It should have been my party!

Kathy, to scared to speak, cowered in her bed.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY PARTY! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY LIFE!

"TAKE THE PARTY!" Kathy screamed, just as loud as the voice, "TAKE IT! TAKE IT ALL AND LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Silence, then...

I was hoping you'd say that...

Darkness fell for a moment, then she realized her mom was in her room. "Kathy, sweetheart, are you alright? I heard you mumbling in our sleep.

"Just a dream!" Kathy exclaimed happily... then her heart stopped as she realized she was looking down at the scene, from the ceiling. She was staring at herself lying in bed.

"I'm okay, mom," the Kathy in her bed said, "Just a bad dream. I'm feeling better now. Can we still have a party?"

"Of course, love," her mom said, "There's... something you should know. When you were born... you had a twin. There as something wrong with the birth. You lived, but your sister..." She paused, then said, "If she had lived, we would have named her Carol."

"I'm glad you told me, mom," Carol smiled, "but I think that the past is best left behind us."

Kathy watched, helplessly unable to move, as the two left the room.
