Chapter 2

Killaxor's Point of View

I held Dylaxor's tiny frame in one arm as I exited my ship, we had landed not more then an hour ago at the most. The infant had slept the entire way to my home planet, currently, he was resting his head on my shoulder. My commanding officer stared at me, surprised to find me carrying a bundle after so many unsucessful missions I suppose. "At last a sucess." He smiles, walking over to me "I hope he didn't put up too much of a fight."

"He came willingly." I replied, nestling Dylaxor against my chest "He struggled and put up a fight when he realized what was going on however." Dylaxor was awake as morning had come "He is four months old, and according to the rest of my data is very healthy."

"Ah yes, good, very good." My commanding officer nodded "His name?"

"Dylaxor." I replied, keeping the human steady, I rubbed his head lightly.

"It has been a great deal of time since I have seen a human infant last." He told me, looming of Dylaxor silently for a moment "Hopefully you realize you can't just ignore him, correct?"

"Not that I have a choice." I muttered so that he couldn't hear me, but spoke up at my next statement "Of course, unless you could think of a better caretaker." I silently hoped he'd say yes "We both know I'm not quite good at this thing."

"No, Dylaxor's all yours... He's far too bonded to you, to be quite honest." My commanding officer began "He appears to see you as his real father."

Ugh, how revolting, why couldn't he just tell me the exact opposite and him to some adoption agency? I didn't want the thing, I had done this because, quite frankly if I didn't I had been threatened. They'd have killed me if I hadn't gotten off my ass and abducted one of these little runts. I sighed, and looked into those blue eyes again, I guess I could get used to it being here, after all I'm sure it couldn't be that hard. I sighed, and held him a little more tightly, I had to be crazy, but I found myself nodding. "Fine, I'll take him... I won't like it, but I'll take him." I said rather bluntly, holding my 'son' a little more gently "I'm not taking any more though, I did my job."

"You're going to have to, but you're only required to adopt one... And you know that." My Commander stared at me "I'll inform you when we next need you. I believe they need a few new test subjects down at the lab... And a few more teenagers for the zoo."

"Yeah, sound like fun, as long as they aren't from Earth." I scowled a bit, and trudged past him.

I stared down at Dylaxor for a moment, and sighed, already counting down the days until he turned eighteen.

Dylaxor's Point of View

10 Years Later...

"Dylaxor Dalvin Stargazer get your sorry gilister down here!" At Dad's voice I sat up slowly, what did I do now?

I pushed my brown hair away from my blue eyes silently, and stood up, I knew that by his tone, my Dad wasn't happy at all. That and the fact, he had just spoken in the native tounge I had learned when I was young. That was always a sign that he meant whatever he had just said. Don't get me wrong, my Dad's a great guy, even if he's rough around the edges. It wasn't like someone like him to be willing enough to take in someone outside their species, thats as far as I know. Nothing about how I got onto this planet, just that I was human, and Dad was a warrior alien of a species known as Galaxors. When I stepped downstairs all four of Dad's golden eyes were on me. "Hey Dad, you wanted to talk to me?" I asked curiously.

"Yes, I just got a call for Ugatah." I recognized the word school even in Dad's native language, I was in so much trouble "Why did you not show up Berthero." I recognized that to be the word for 'Son' as well.

"Sorry Dad, I just... I have no excuse." I looked down "But everyone else said it was cool."

"We'll talk about this when I return from work." Dad replies, he looks at me with a rather hint of a glare "But you will not be seeing that 'Computer' of yours for a very long time Dylaxor."

I watched Dad walk out the front door, rolled my eyes, and walked up the stairs, sighing. Well, I should have seen it coming, in Dad's words. "Dayomo neatha dua!" How can I be that stupid! It would be odd for someone to be thinking this way at ten, but being raised by a highly intelligant alien helped. Virtually any human raised here was like me, having the mind of someone three years older. But even so I still acted my age, don't get me wrong, I never once denied I do. I sigh, and lay onto my bed again, staring up through my clear, dome-like roof. It's always nightime here, and we can always see our four moons, and the stars. I loved nothing else but to stare out my rooftop and just look on.

And sometimes I have to wonder if my homeworld is still out there, and if I'm looking at it's star right now. And at times I wonder if that could be working both ways.

Killaxor's Point of View

"Dylaxor ditched school?" I nodded at my friend and comrade as we walked down the hall of the labratory he shook his head "That's new for someone his age, isn't it?"

"Humans never cease to amaze me." I tell Karell.

"And to think you hated the thought of raising him when you first took him." Karell tilts his head to the side, giving me a smug look "Though that could change if he ever finds out what you actually did."

"He'll never find out, nor will he find out what I do here." I stared at Karell "It's so much easier these days, isn't it?"

"Indeed, though we're usually the ones still doing the collecting."

I nodded in agreement, staring down at the file in my hand as we walked into a large room. The room was filled with children ranging from ages seven to twelve, which we had rescently discovered is the cut-off age for are re-birther technology. Some were alien, very obviously slow, but these days we recieved more and more abducted humans. This was our version of an orphanage these days, those who abducted the children were allowed to chose to eitehr keep the creature, or bring them here. Of course, the rules were still the same, we returned them to infancy to avoid problems. I found the child that was wanted by a new couple, a boy around eight years of age. I set a hand on his shoulder, and the two friends he was speaking to moved away. "It's my time?" The boy asked, he had already been tested, but that was obvious those who could not be converted were sent back home.

"Yes Tirk." I tell the young human, he slumps, I know why too, he doesn't want to forget everything, and his friends here "If it helps Tirk..." I say still calling him by the name we had given him "Once they are chosen they will forget too."

Tirk looks at me, and nods, allowing me to lead him out of the room, and into the re-birthing chamber. I had expected him to want to at least say goodbye to his friends, but I suppose it was too hard to. I understood, as not many children wanted to do this. Some I had to remind that they had the choice to stay at the lab, and once they turned thirteen, they would be returned home. Most children didn't want to go back because they had been away for so long, this one was no different. "Are you ready for me to begin?" I ask, opening the already prepared pod, Tirk nodded, and he willingly climbed in "Last chance to back out." The boy shook his head, I nod, and press a few buttons, these days it's as simple as that.

Tirk didn't make a sound aside from a soft whine when the process started, and only made noise once it was done. Of course, this happened nintey percent of the time, the crying, they were now newborns after all. I open the pod, and take the infant that appears to be five months old out, wrapping him in a blue blanket. The new parents were already waiting for me as I walked out of the chamber. "His name is Tirk." I nodded to them, handing Tirk into the mother's waiting arms "Congradulations."

Sometimes after uniting new families, I contemplated re-birthing another, but I have yet to. Dylaxor's a handful enough as is. "Still thinking?" Karell asked as I stepped back into the room, leaning against the wall "There are plenty of them that want to stay on this planet... You should-"

"When Dylaxor is older, I might." I grimaced "I'm still not sure I'm a good enough father." My friend, who I'm guessing I regreted to mention was human raised his eyebrows "What?"

"Dad used to say the same thing before he re-birthed me." Karell replied, shaking his head.

"We've gotten so many offers this month alone though Karell." I sighed, two of the younger ones ran around my legs "For now I'm well off with my current son." I said with a firm nod.

"How did an abductor like you get caught up in this anyway?"

"I'm still an abductor, half of the children here were abducted by me Karell." I replied in a low voice "In fact I have to leave tonight to pick up another one."

"I heard they're not taking all the kids now."

"They aren't, just ones that need an escape. Kid I'm picking up has lived in an orphanage his whole life on Earth." I explained then sighed "Another is on Antaar, and lives on the streets."

"Ah, so the abductors are being noble now?"

I didn't reply, only walked out the doorway with a wave, Dylaxor was going to have a stern talking to before I left. I'd make sure of it, this time, I was going to ground him until the next Kias.
