SO I DID

nightfly

--

I never meant to do any of those things --

I looked in the mirror and you told me

make your bed of nails

and I did, but then you said

and go lay in it

so I did.

-

I never meant for that dog to howl its last cry

but it annoyed me and you told me

make it quiet

and I couldn't think, but I did it anyway

then you said

hide it, hide it, no one must know

so I did.

-

I never meant to make that little girl cry

but you told me

no one's allowed to be happier than you

and I was feeling sad, so I punched her and gave her a black eye

then you said

run away

so I did.

-

I never meant to push the little girl's mother into the river

but you told me

you're in danger, do something about it

and I didn't know what else to do because I was panicking

then you said

hurry

so I did.

-

I never meant to hurt my mother

but she knew everything about me and you told me

she'll punish you

then I was scared and you said

punish her first

so I did.

-

I never meant to do any of those things --

so I went and made my bed and laid in it

then I was all alone and you told me

i'm always here, don't forget that

then you said

believe me, I am always with you

so I did.

A/N: Despite what you get from this poem, I'm far from being mad, so there's no need to worry about my sanity, haha. I had a sudden stroke of inspiration while I was at work - and this was the result of it. It's pretty much as I wrote it. And yes, the protagonist is schizophrenic/delusional.
