Sargent Justin Strait
Chapter Four
What bugs me is how easy my job can be.
I’m ‘No Name’ to Tavern and ‘New Guy’ to the other guys.
My friends call me Justin, Sargent Justin Strait, and I’m undercover for many reasons, mostly just to get out of the office.
“You heard Tavern!” yelled a fat, greasy hit man. “Go! Look for the prize!”
“Pig!” a slimmer one shouted and came up behind him.
He slapped him upside his head and repeated orders, “You are supposed to guard the back end with Skins!” and he shoved him in that direction.
He then turned to me and said in a mock sweet tone, “What’s your name,” and in a huskier voice, “boy.”
“Uh, Ignacio,” I told him.
He nodded, “Iggy, nice.”
He pointed down the North Wing, “I’ll be down there.” Then he pointed to the opposite direction, “Go down that way, South Wing, if you’re dense like the rest of these fools."
I nodded.
Who is he kidding?
He’s stupid enough to not know who I am. But I guess that made me lucky, if he was smart he would have shoat me.
“And remember,” the skinny guy was right next to me. I could see that he wasn’t very tall. Or maybe that was me, I’m a looming 6’5”.
“Check every single-dingle room.” He waved his finger in the air. “We don’t want to miss what we’re looking for.”
I blinked, “What exactly are we looking for?”
He snorted and started to walk to his post, “I’m sure it’s just something Tavern really, really wants. Badly.”
I shook my head, whatever it was, Tavern didn’t want anyone to know.
Sargent Justin Strait
I had checked five rooms throughly.
And just as I thought I found something it was nothing.
“Do you really think this is what Tavern wants?”
I showed the superviser (I believe his name was Iniko, I’m not sure why) what I had found, but, as I said, it was always nothing.
“Just continue searching, I’m sure you’ll find something before those goons.” He pointed to Pig and the rest of them. They were restling over something greasy. I guessed it was food.
He waved me away and said, “Next.”
But as soon as the next guy came up he stopped me, “Wait, you, kid!”
I turned, “Yes?”
“What’s your name?”
“Uh, Ignacio.”
He frowned but nodded. I walked off, not worried.
Why should I be? No one recognized me.
Or so I thought.
Iniko
Poor boy.
Forced into a life of crime.
But who am I to judge? I am in it too, am I not?
But when I thought about it, the more it seemed that I was wrong about him.
He may have not been forced. He seems to intelligent to be tricked into helping Tavern with his scemes.
And if he’d been kidnapped, I would have heard it from someone.
And the more and more I collected this all up in my head the more I knew, or the more I concluded.
He must be a spy.
Augustan Ames
I had finnaly gotten to a place where she could relax and sleep.
I knew that we were far from Tavern’s sight.
Daphne now lay beside me, asleep in the passenger seat beside me. She looked so out of place when she sits there.
After hours of searching for her twin sister Tasha, she finally passed out, exhausted, scared, and widely confused.
Oh, if only she knew the danger she was in!
I tried to tell her many times tonight! But she wasn’t listing to me. She was busy…as always.
But Daphne, she’s worth the wait. She’s worth giving a ring to. I love that woman. And no amount of bad blood will stop me from marrying her.
She needs to know though, she needs to know…
“What do you do to win?”
Daphne Nord
“And the winner is Daphne Nord!”
The sun was shining in my face, someone handed me sun glasses.
“Yeah! Go Nord!” fans screamed in triumph for me.
“Thanks guys for coming here!” I told them the truth.
“How does it feel to win your hunderith race, Daphne?”
“Great, Tom.” I said in the winner’s circle.
“Well this was an easy victory right?”
“It was a bit of a challenge, so I like to think my father’s sprit was in the car with me.” I smiled.
“Oh, like the great father he is right?” he laughed, “Backseat driving?”
I laughed.
It seemed so.
“No more questions folks,” my grandfather shooed reporters away while I sprinted to my trailer.
Grandpa…Grandpa…Grandpa…
I changed. “Hi Grandpa,” I fluffed my hair. “Bye, Grandpa.”
“Bye?” He questioned blankly. “Are you Daphne or Tasha?”
“I’m sorry to run again but…I’m meeting someone.”
“Oh?” he glared at me hands on hips.
“Yes, I am.” I blew him a kiss and waved good-bye.
Grandpa…Grandpa…Grandpa…
I got to my car and drove off to the train station.
It felt like a memory being played on a pregector instead of a dream.
Grandpa…I tossed…Grandpa…I turned…Grandpa…I worried that I may never see him again…Grandpa, I miss you…
I was worried I won’t see him when I awake.
Grandpa…Good-Bye…
Daphne Nord
“Ah!” I screamed.
“Daphne?” Ames looked at me worried, he look very worried and tired.
“Oh Ames!” I hugged him. Wet tears started to drip.
“Oh Daphne, sweetie, it’s okay.” He patted my head. “I know where Tasha is.” He told me.
I welled up with happiness. “Oh Ames! Yes!” I hugged him tighter.
“She’s in there, let’s get her quickly.”
“Yes, yes.” We got out of the car.
I had the greatest feeling of greatfulness in my chest. So I just ran back to Ames and hugged him again.
“Thank you, so much.” I whispered.
