'Games'
Adam grinned like a cheshire cat as he laid dow the four aces in his hand. Only Adam could be so lucky in every game without cheating. He was good at it all; board games, card games, mind games. His mind could map out where he wanted to go in the beginning of a game and find a way to follow through.
Shelly groaned, her pair of Jacks beaten by the winning aces. She watched Adam pull in his chips from the middle of the table and wondered why he dropped out of college. Everyone who had ever played with him knew his mind was advanced. It outreached games and into education, if only he'd show up to classes. He never even needed to study.
Mathew threw down his three deuces. "What's wrong with you, man? Can't you ever give us a chance?" Mathew played for the fun, not in seriousness, but still would've liked a chance, just once, to beat Adam. He collected the cards as Adam shrugged.
"It's what I do," he said simply, watching Mathew shuffle the cards as if he could see what fortunes they'd bring him in this round. Yes, this is what Adam did. Adam loved his games. What he feared was that's all he'd ever have in his life. Silly games for a lost man.
