“You see, Drew, you were born on the night of a lunar eclipse,” Alena said.

“No,” Drew said, “that can’t be true!”

“Unfortunately, it is,” Alena said. Her eyes were shining darkly as she watched Drew’s reaction.

“No,” Drew said, shaking his head. He didn’t want to believe Alena; she had to be lying to him. But why would she? She had told him the truth about her life. She is trying to manipulate him; she had to be lying. Besides, he had only heard about her from his older brother when he was twelve. She couldn’t possibly know anything about him.

“I can tell what you’re thinking. How could I possibly know so much about you?” Alena said.

“Have you been watching me?” Drew asked in surprise.

Alena nodded. “Since you were ten years old.”

“How did you find me?”

“Actually, it was all a coincidence. I was at a carnival the same day as you and your older brother.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You don’t remember?” Alena asked in mock surprise, “Think hard; you should remember things that happened when you were ten.”

“I can’t--,” Drew started to say but stopped. It was a little fuzzy, but he was starting to remember.

Hey Brad, can we go in there?” Drew asked, looking up at his older brother. The girl was looking over at him again-the one he had seen for the past week-and he was starting to get nervous. Brad smiled, and looked at the tent his younger brother was pointing at. It was a fortune teller’s tent.

Are you sure you want to go in there? You were never a big fan of fortune tellers,” Brad said.

I just want to look,” Drew said becoming increasingly aware of the girl moving closer. Before Brad could say anything else, Drew dragged him into the tent.

There was no one there when Drew first looked around and he was kind of glad. Brad had been right, Drew hated fortune tellers because he didn’t think the future was supposed to be seen.

Alright, we’re here. What do you want to look at?” Brad asked.

Stuff,” Drew said and he started to browse through some of the shelves. There was a bunch of stuff like Tarot Cards, crystal balls, tea cups, but the thing that Drew saw the most was books about the occult and witchcraft.

Can I help you boys?” the voice sent shivers up Drew’s back and he didn’t look up.

No, we’re just looking,” Brad said with a smile. Drew glanced up briefly and got a good look at the fortune teller. She didn’t dress strangely-not like the fortune tellers in the movies- but she did wear bangles on her wrist and large hoop earrings. She was staring at Drew with a strange look on her face.

That boy,” the fortune teller said, pointing a thin finger at Drew, “he has the gift.”

Drew couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He didn’t believe in fortune telling and wasn’t going to believe what this lady said.

What are you talking about?” Brad said, clearly interested. Drew ignored his brother and continued to look at the things on display.

He was born on a very grim night. The night of a lunar eclipse,” the old fortune teller said, “There was another born on another lunar eclipse but she has already grown a heart of hate.”

Who is she?” Drew heard his older brother ask.

She goes by the name of Magdalena O’Maily. But be warned, since time can no longer age her body, she cleverly hides herself in the modern world; changing to match the style around her. And she will come for your brother for he is the one that she seeks. Protect him at all costs.”

What does she want with my little brother?” Brad asked.

There is a prophecy that states:

'The evil will wait for the Destined One; someone who born like it was; on a lunar eclipse. With the Destined One, the evil will destroy the race of man. The Destined One is faced with a fork in the road. One side is light and clear; the good within his heart. The other is dark and grim; the evil within. Only one path can he walk. If the Destined One is succumbed by darkness, the evil will use him to destroy humanity. But if the Destined One is succumbed by light, he will have the power to destroy the evil.'

So my little brother is this ‘Destined One’?” Brad asked.

Yes,” the fortune teller said, “You must not let the Magdalena find him; she will only use his ability to destroy the world.”

How can I find her?”

No one knows but there is a legend that says she was once hunted by man and that the men that hunted her had an image of her, but that story has faded into the past and I don’t remember it.”

Thank you,” Brad said, “Drew, come on. Let’s go.”

“So you see, Drew, you are the one I need. I need the evil inside of you; your black flame,” Alena said.
