Epilog

“Come on, Kaitlin.” Natalia said, rolling her grey eyes. “You look amazing and the party started almost an hour ago! Don’t you think its time to go upstairs?”

I turned my black lined, eye shadow covered, mascara gooped eyes on her. “Natalia, my make-up looks like it belongs on a clown.”

“It does not!” She defended her make-over abilities. “It looks great! Trent will love it.”

“Sure he will.” I muttered, looking in the mirror once again.

It was new years eve and Amy and Dad had decided to throw a party. Natalia had come over earlier that afternoon to get ready- as well as do my hair and make-up. Something she was certain I couldn’t do myself.

And she sure did it.

My hair was curled elegantly, cascading down my shoulders. She had put silver eye shadow on my lids, then rimmed my eyes with black, then adding mascara. She somehow managed to make my skin look like it was glowing, a steady healthy glow. She had even done my nails.

My dress was a black, straight skirt, elegant number that made me feel like I was about to walk down a red carpet somewhere. I loved it, and I desperately hoped Trent would too.

Trent and I had now been together for three months. There were still some people that…disapproved, but we really didn’t care. We were together and that was all that mattered.

Chris and Natalia were getting along better- well, they weren’t arguing as much. I would even go as far to call them friends. Well, good enough friends that they agreed to go to the party together tonight, much to the surprise of everyone.

“Lets go, Kaitlin.” Natalia said once again, smiling at me. “Trent and Chris are waiting.”

“Wouldn’t want to make Chris wait.” I said, making sure she could hear the amusement in my voice.

She actually blushed. “Shut up. Let’s go.” She threw the door open- only to be greeted by two teenage boys that had been listening at the door. They both stumbled slightly, but recovered quickly. Chris just looked at us, amused, while Trent at least looked ashamed.

Natalia raised her eyebrows at them. “Hear anything interesting?”

“No.” Chris said, smirking at her. “Maybe we should try again.” He grabbed the door, trying to close it once again.

Natalia caught it and rolled her eyes. “Nice try.” She smiled up at him softly, walking out of my room. “Time to make our entrance.” She grabbed Chris’s arm, linking it with hers.

Chris smirked. “I knew you couldn’t keep your hands off of me.”

“Don’t start.” Natalia said instantly. Their voices faded as they walked up the stairs.

Trent stared straight into my eyes, his shining brightly. “You look amazing.” He whispered, kissing me softly.

I giggled, but argued anyway. “You don’t think that its too much?”

Trent chuckled, wrapping one of my new curls around his finger. “Natalia got to you, didn’t she?”

I blushed, but nodded anyway.

Trent chuckled again, letting the curl fall from his finger as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me close to him. “It looks great, Kaitlin. You look great.”

I smiled, reaching up slightly to press my lips against his. “Thank you.”

Trent glanced around, then smirked. “Sure you want to go upstairs? Maybe we could just stay down here…in my room…” He grinned at me wolfishly.

“Trent!” I said, hitting his shoulder playfully. “I think people would notice if we didn’t go.”

“Does it really matter?” Trent asked, leaning down and kissing my neck softly, making me giggle.

“Stop!” I finally said, moving out of his arms and running toward the stairs. He was by me instantly, offering me his arm. I linked mine with his and he shot me an amused smile.

“There you two are!” Amy said, moving toward us instantly. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

I shot Trent an I-told-you-so look and Trent snickered. “Hey mom.” He said, smiling at her.

“Trent, can you find your brother? I cant seem to find him-”

“Mom, it’s a party. Evan’s fine.” Trent cut in, rolling his eyes.

Amy looked like she was going to argue, but she sighed instead, throwing her hands up in the air. “Alright, alright. Have fun.”

She wandered off and Trent instantly pulled me close, starting to dance- which was what every other couple in the room was doing. “So, have you decided about college yet?” Trent asked slowly.

I instantly winced. This had been a touchy subject lately, neither of us wanting to leave the other. But I answered his question anyway. “I’m going to Columbia, for journalism.”

Trent looked like he had already known the answer was coming, but her wasn’t very happy about it. Trent and Chris were both going to Boston, and Natalia had yet to say where she was going to go.

“That’s a long way away.” Trent said softly, softly stroking my hair.

I nodded, feeling my eyes instantly start to well with tears. Trent pulled me closer, letting me rest my head on his chest. “Don’t cry.” He said, continuing to stoke my hair. “Come on. It’ll be fine. We’ll be fine.”

I nodded, still trying not to cry. “I know.” I whispered.

“Come on, Kaitlin.” Trent continued softly. “What’s your new years resolution?”

“To be with you.” I said instantly.

“You already have that.” Trent chided gently, amusement in his voice.

“So? That’s what I want!”

And, that night , when he kissed me when the clock struck twelve, I knew I had got my wish.
