Plate Tectonics

(how our hearts met across the crowded classroom

floor)

Earth’s Interior

(the way you smelled that day)

Convection and the Mantle

(they tried to analyze my heartscape, but only you

could)

Drifting Continents

(maybe.)

Sea- Floor Spreading

(eventually, between the two of us. but not yet. i

hope.)

The Theory of Plate Tectonics

(maybe we were best in theory)

Earthquakes

(who knows. it might be what pulls us apart

eventually.)

Forces in Earth’s Crust

(maybe it won’t be what.)

Earthquakes and Seismic Waves

(maybe it’ll be who.)

Monitoring Earthquakes

(safely, from my perch above the sky and the

ground and the clouds where the rest of them swill

around in circles, spinning on and on and on.)

Earthquake Safety

(some might call me frigid for having that spot

above the sky. not you.)

Volcanoes

(oftentimes I can’t watch them from above the sky

because they’re all inside. of me, too.)

Volcanoes and Plate Tectonics

(interactions. not between minds and souls like

we’d like, but just teeth and lips and arms and

curves and angles in skinscapes.)

Properties of Magma

(what makes it hurt so much)

Volcanic Eruptions

(no more.)

Volcanic Landforms

(it holds us steady for a while, even if it comes in a

blaze of burning heartstuff.)

Minerals

(pretty rocks.)

Properties of Minerals

(just pretty rocks.)

How Minerals Form

(they’re no more than pretty rocks.)

Using Mineral Resources

(can we?)

Rocks

(hearts. mine, they said.)

Classifying Rocks

(you never tried, and it made me weep with joy

and sadness, thinking you didn’t care. who knew

how much you did.)

Igneous Rocks

(porous and raw, still willing to take it. the holes

clog soon enough.)

Sedimentary Rocks

(layers and layers of crapshit and hate and dirty

leftovers pushing down until it’s hard and cold

and lifeless.)

Rocks From Reefs

(reminding me, as only you can, that it was

alive once.)

Metamorphic Rocks

(you could breathe life back into it. i think.)

The Rock Cycle

(warm to cold to warm to cold to you.)

AN: -The pump don’t work ‘cause the vandals took the handle.

-you are weightless, semi- erotic…

-driving home the sky accelerates, and the clouds all form a geometric shape.

Cyber- cookies for who can tell me where they’re from.
