Note: This story is told in third person. This is just a diary entry.
Summary: (A diary entry from the protagonist)
20 years have passed since America’s second great depression…
The American economy failed due to the government’s constant funding of the military. The nation with the strongest arms and defense is also the nation with a highest percentage of high school dropouts. Every four years we get a chance to rebuild schools, libraries, and hospitals. But every four years the voters elect the man who promises the lowest taxes.
Job outlooks aren’t to good either. Our once carefully plotted capitalist system, has turned extreme. There are two social classes: the rich and the poor. Fifty-seven percent of Americans, including myself, work underpaid in factories, fast food restaurants, and other menial occupations that takes our energy and our life streams and feed it to the corporate machine.
Anarchist movements have terrorized many major cities. They do anything to get their message across including blowing up buildings, to shutting down power. This means that anyone on life support is dead, any doctors who are trying to perform surgery cannot. Instead of taking the fight to the white house, they prefer to endanger citizens.
Because of the war zone that our country has become, the government tapes every phone call, plant cameras in street corners, and dispose armed men in blue uniforms that can be found almost anywhere.
A great population of Americans are Christians. The anarchists have been noted not to go to church. The Eagle’s Eye is said to suspect anyone who does not attend church to be a threat. This, I don’t believe. I’ve never gone to church and I’ve never been harassed.
Now on to happier news:
Yesterday on my thirty fourth birthday, I met a woman named Janet. Tomorrow is my first date with her. Whoever is reading this, wish me luck.
