One day, my friend Ruth Less came to my door. “I brought a yummy prune cake.”
“Yummy, can I try it?” I asked.
“Yes. Here’s a fork,” she said. She picked up a piece of the cake on the fork and handed it to me.
I stared at the fork with the large portion of prune pie… oops, I mean cake!
“I’m not sure I could handle a bite as giant as this,” I stated.
“Oh well, the worst thing that could happen is you choke,” Ruth Less said.
“That’s not so bad.” I bit half the piece. “Yum. This is pretty good.”
“I’m glad.”
Ding dong! The doorbell rang.
“Excuse me while I answer the door.”
I opened the door. Gasp! It was my other friend, Refrie Dbeans.
“I smelled creamy succotash from my house,” he said, sniffing the air. “Is it yours?”
“Why not at all. But I have prune cake. Want a bite?” I offered.
“Why yes, I would be delighted,” he said.
“Ok, here’s a bite,” I said, handing him the piece I didn’t finish. “Well, half of one, anyway. I ate the other half.”
“Gee, thanks!”
Refrie DBeans took a grateful bite. “This is fairly gross,” he stated.
Ding dong! The doorbell rang… again! I opened the door. Guess what? It was my other friend Defrie DBeans! He was Refrie DBeans’ little brother. He is the pinto kind of bean. Refrie DBeans is the lima kind. I pretend that I’m the speckled kind. I’m getting off the subject.
I offered him the rest of the piece of cake that Refrie didn’t finish.
He said, “Why I’d love to.”
“Oh, this is yucky!” he said after he bit the bite of prune cake.
“What?” I exclaimed. “You do not find delight in this piece of prune cake’s taste?”
Ruth Less appeared from behind the door. “How’d you like it?”
“Oh, it was yucky!”
“I find that fairly insulting,” she said, offended.
“Oh well, I don’t care really,” Defrie said. “As long as I don’t… uh oh!”
Poot!
Just then, guess what gave my nose a surprise?
“Pardon my smell,” Defrie excused himself.
“Gosh, I’m getting out of here!” Ruth Less screamed.
I didn’t like the sound of that. It’s something that she only does when she’s about to faint.
“Ah-ha-ha-ha…”
Ruth Less fainted. So did Refrie Dbeans. So did I, I think. All I know is that I woke up and bought an air freshener that day. Then I went into the kitchen and decided to have breakfast, lunch, dessert, snack, dinner, and another dessert all at the same time. I had one solution to the problem of what to eat- prune cake.
The end.
