Well today after a couple of weeks not working at the restaurant I had to work for nine hours. Usually it is not so bad but somehow with my new mindset it was rather tiresome to work. We had the usual weirdness that is accumulated there but that seems to be normal from my observations. My colleagues had fun yelling at each others and sometimes even jokingly insulted the others which made for a rather light-hearted and loud atmosphere in the kitchen. There is this new shift-coordinator who has to prove himself still it seems, he has no respect earned as boss at all for now. He is rather this new one, who is played with by the seniors, I personally would like if he had been stricter on them. Work would have flown smoother then. Generally speaking this day was one of the "super-busy" Sundays where at any given time people are there ordering new dishes, troubling us to no end. Stuff that usually is done while the rush-hour had to be delayed, someone had the great idea to only have three people in the kitchen for lunchtime that is as fact not an good idea, once it gets all busy we in the kitchen can only cook so much in a time-frame given. People then getting angry because they waited for their lunch a long time follows without mentioning, additionally the cashiers also were troubling us with accepting coupons without telling us what was ordered with them. Our monitor in the kitchen only displays the normal orders correctly, coupons usually get screwed up or are not shown at all. Troublesome indeed! So even after telling them it was not working right they came back at us yelling where the ordered meal was. Hey you did not tell us to begin with! Are people these days so forgetful or are they just oblivious to the people around them? This was one of the problems we had. Of course as I might have told you, our toaster is never working right. It either doesnt toast the bread or it burns them to ashes. Both options are not helping us to work faster. This Sunday was a vicious circle, too few people, too many orders, not understanding cashiers and the certain doom of running out of supplies. Yes we could have prepared more supplies but then we would not have finished the incoming orders, both possibilities do not work so well with a fast-paced restaurant. There were so many things running wrong, we even had the occasional English-speaking customer who would find all of the cashiers unable to speak even broken English. Fun to watch them searching for someone who could help them to communicate. I should mention that I am living in a European country which usually is regarded as wealthy and not using English as native language. But I am mean how come that so many people do not know even a bit English in these days? Even the lowest of our education levels has English classes to take, one is even required to take them. Is it really so that I am only working with foreigners from countries with no educational system at all? I do not quite think so. Come on people show some common knowledge at start learning English these days, you are in great need of it when you have customers to serve! Well I guess that is it for today, I do not have any more rants to relieve here. I may be ending this writing/working experiment very soon as I, even if it is not my nature, starts to aggravate me to some extend and I do not intend to do further harm to my intellectual integrity.
