The light was blinding.
Even with the excellent vision the demon possessed, the only thing visible with all the white light was a tall figure in flowing robes, who was apparently the source of all the light.
“Who are you?” the demon asked, blinking against the whiteness.
“You need not be afraid, little one,” the figure spoke in a heavenly voice that made even the demon feel warm and almost comforted inside, “I am here to help you.”
“You’re a god, aren’t you?” the demon asked scathingly. “You all are never any help. Just nuisances-”
“Hush.” In a swish of robes, the goddess was in front of the demon, placing a finger a hairsbreadth away from the demons face. The demon attempted to recoil, but found movement, and speech, to be impossible. “The gods have a prophecy regarding you, little one.” The goddess removed her finger from the demons face.
The demon gazed narrow-eyed at the goddess and breathed again.
“Prophecy…? You are Satya then?” the demon asked, tone a mixture of awe and uncertainty.
Satya nodded, and spoke in a darker voice.
“The Tailed Beasts must always lie under your control. The balance of the worlds depends upon it. The Eight-Tails has betrayed you, and if you do not act, others might follow suit. You cannot allow this happen.”
“You forget: I can’t do anything. The bastard asked for protection against demons. Sorry, Satya-devi, but it looks like you gods will have to solve this problem-”
“That is where the prophecy comes in.” Satya cut the demon off, “You are destined to defeat the Eight Tails, and you are the only one who can do so.” She sighed, “The Eight Tails has gained protection from the gods.”
The demon laughed dryly.
“Some idiots you are, ruling up there. Tell me, does anyone who prays long enough get anything they desire? Even if it upsets your precious balance?” The demon taunted, grinning.
Satya ignored the demon and continued with a serious expression. “The Eight Tails asked for protection from demons and gods, as you know. However he did not ask for anything against humans.”
The demon scoffed. “Protection from mortals? Who would ask for something so useless?”
“It is the loophole in his immortality. The prophecy says that you will defeat him by becoming human in both form and heart.”
“What the hell does that mean?” the demon asked, bristling at the mention of becoming human. “I can shapeshift but even I cannot change completely into a mortal at will; I would still be a demon inside-”
Satya smiled, and the demon was almost scared.
“That is where the gods come in, little kitsune.”
Satya reached forward to touch the demon, and the light grew in intensity until the demon could not see anything, save for Satya’s reaching hand.
The white light changed to golden, and consumed the demon entirely. Vaguely the demon registered it feeling like being tossed in a pile of silks.
The bubble of light closed around her, and Satya’s figure began to fade in the glow.
“Wait!” the demon called, voice muffled by the light.
Satya disappeared into the flood of radiance, her last words echoing in the abyss of light:
“This is your destiny, Nine-tailed Kitsune. Embrace it.”
A/N: This is just the prologue, fyi. Anyway, this is going to be a fic based largely on a combo of Asian mythology, mainly Japanese and Indian because I'm most interested in those, hehe. Feedback is loved.
A Little Bit of Trivia:
Kitsune means fox in Japanese
Devi is a term for goddess in Hindi
Satya means All-Truth in Sanskirt
