Chapter 15
The Search For A Date Begins

I am so going to die. It’s now Sunday, and I’m still dateless. I can’t believe I freaking forgot I had to find a date for tomorrow’s D&D! Which is why, at ten in the night, I’m freaking out on the phone with Ann and Este.

“Hellooooooooooooo.” I cut in impatiently. Somehow we’d drifted from finding me a date to reminiscing about our college prom.

“Good morning starshine, the Earth says hello!” Este replied brightly, quoting Willy Wonka and making Ann crack up.

“My date?” I said dully, tapping my French-manicured nails on my nightstand.

“Oh, yes! The ever elusive search for The Date!” Ann said, amused. Silence. I was starting to get edgy, and they weren’t really helping me.

“Sorry that we aren’t of much help, Dani. But we’ll get started now, okay?” Este said, hurt lacing her voice a little. Oh shit, did I just say what I was thinking?

“Yes, genius, you did.” Ann replied, and I heard Este giggling on her end.

“Not funny, Este.” I frowned, running a hand through my hair. “How am I supposed to find a date on such short notice?!?!”

Silence again.

“How about that really hot guy we bumped into at the swimming pool?” Este asked, and I could almost imagine her eyes light up teasingly.

“Not free Monday. I asked, but apparently he’s going to be in England for his friend’s wedding as the best man. Staying there till Thursday, I think.” I sighed, staring at the ceiling of my room.

“Oh oh oh, how about that guy whom I sort-of bumped into at your engagement party? He’s pretty cute.” Ann said thoughtfully, as I cringed at the mention of my, uhm, engagement party. “What’s his name? David? No… Dean? Not that… Oh, it’s Dylan!”

I had to pull the phone away from my ear as she rambled on excitedly. After a moment, the name registered. I started laughing hysterically, bowling over on my bed and clutching my nightstand to steady myself, lest I fall off.

“What’s so funny?” Este and Ann asked simultaneously, and I heard Ann puckering her lips. It took me a minute to calm down from my hysterics and answer. “Annett my dear, he’s gay.”

“WHAT THE?!?!?!” Ann practically screamed, while I burst into fits of laughter.

“Aww, I wish I could see your expression, Twin!” I struggled to say while laughing.

“He’s gay?” Ann asked, her voice quivering.

“Yeah, why?”

“I… kinda made out with him. Like, full force lip action.”

It was my turn to be flabbergasted. “What. The. Fuck.” I slowly articulated, trying to digest this new piece of information. Dylan told me he was gay. ‘I’m gay, I prefer penis, not boobs.’ That’d been what he told me. So what’s he doing, full-on lip action with my best friend?

“And I thought he was gay. Like, full force gay.” I deadpanned, pinching the bridge of my nose. I could tell Ann was frowning, even though I couldn’t see her. It’s one of those things 24 years of BFF-ship has done to us.

“What did I miss?” Este’s voice resounded. That was when I actually realised she had been missing, probably after she asked about asking Trent.

“Uh, nothing really. Except that my fully gay cousin made out full force with dear Ann here. And I’m pretty sure Ann is a girl.”

“Oh.” Este replied dully, an uncomfortable silence following.

“So, about my date-” I started, trying to break the silence, but Este cut me off.

“I’ve got it settled. Found a guy willing to accompany you as your date to that D&D.” Este said airily.

“What? Who?” I asked, not really that eager to know. Blind dates weren’t my thing, exactly.

I could tell that Este was grinning foolishly as she replied, “Someone we know.” I heard the sound of her typing away at her keyboard, as well as a separate faint clicking - probably Ann typing away at the computer too. Were they…? “Guys, are you on MSN talking about my potential date?!?!?!” I screamed into the phone before realising the time and clamping my hand over my mouth, staring at the door. My family - especially my parents - weren’t exactly ‘night’ or ‘morning’ people.

“Hush now, Dani. You don’t want to wake up anybody in town, right?” Ann said, giggling.

“F-i-n-e.” I said, stretching the syllable. “If you’re not telling me, then I’ll head to bed now.”

I was about to hang up when Este’s voice broke through. “Oh and Danielle, he’s coming to pick you up in his Mercedes at six-thirty.” His Mercedes? Now, who did I know who owned a Mercedes…? This question lingered on my mind as I hung up and slowly drifted off into slumber.

A/N: I sincerely apologise for the lack of updates (for TPL/TWTA/GPB) in a really long time. So much has happened recently, namely graduation and getting my nationals result... My result was really unexpected and not in a good way either. But I've gotten over it and I guess 'moving on' would be best. :)

Anyway, here's an update for TPL! Sorry for breaking my word on the modelling insight but things didn't exactly go down that path very well. So, Dani's modelling stinct shall and will remain as a small part of this story, and you won't exactly see much more of that action. BUT, as compensation, I shall and will stick to my other promise of a insight to Matt's mind next chapter, peeps! :D

Yeah, so look out for it... Really soon. In the meantime I'm aiming to update all three of my stories by today, so yeah. OH AND KEEP THE REVIEWS COMING, PEOPLE! They push me to update more often, haha.

Sydney-J 14: That'll come soon enough. :)
