Prologue

Today is a winding road that's taking me to places that I didn't want to go…

Standing at the jetty with her earphones blasting music out loud, she looked forth. The sky was blue, very blue, she observed. It was surprising how the world still remained the same, even if one disappeared from the face of the Earth, how the disappearance of a person could never make a difference to the others. She looked up at the sky, closed her eyes and stood in that position for a few seconds to enjoy the cool breeze coming from the sea. The breeze was supposed to make her feel lighter, happier. Or at least that was what she told her mother before she left the house. She just did not want those piercing blue eyes to be staring at her the whole day, wanting to accompany her to wherever she wanted to go or trying to engage her in some nonsensical activity that was nicely planned for her. She just wanted to be alone.

Today in the blink of an eye I'm holding on to something and I do not know why I tried…

Tears started flowing down her cheeks continuously. The tears were wetting her long, beautiful eyelashes. She opened her eyes and tried drying the tears with her long and thin fingers. It did not help. Instead, the tears flowed at an even faster rate than before, until she finally gave up trying to stop them. It was tough and useless. She knew that once she started crying, she would take a long time trying to stop the tears. She looked up at the sky once again with her wet brown eyes. The pieces of memory started to fall in place…
