Trust

Why wouldn’t he say something. Anything, just say something to her.

“Why? I thought… I thought you loved me? I just… I was stupid.” He turned to leave, leaving the girl and the boy behind. She broke away from the other, her lipstick still imprinted on his cheek.

“James wait! James. WAIT!” Her voice thundered, and James turned round, he gulped down the stone forming at his neck, and gave her a cold look.

“No. Cindy. I waited for you for a long time, just to get you away from the jerk you were with before. And when we could finally be happy you cheat on me. That’s life isn’t it though? It’s never fair always taking things away from us. Then it hit me hard Cindy, because the person I loved, the one person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with she turned her back on me. I-” James’s voice was muffled as he turned, and he hastily wiped at his eyes, then taking a deep breath and gulping down a boulder he turned.

“James.” Her voice was tender and soft, she physically felt sick, she despised herself she felt dirty and cheap. She could feel herself being ripped apart.

“I don’t want to hear it Cindy. You hurt me enough already, don’t make it worse.” James turned, the next boulder near enough impossible to swallow.

“James, let me explain-”“Let you explain. Let you explain! I don’t think you need to, I understand. You don’t like me you never have done. You just threw yourself at the next person didn’t you?” James’s hand swiped furiously at his eyes this time. He shouldn’t be upset, she deserved it she wasn’t worth it. But the hurt was getting too much.

“No! James it wasn’t like that. That’s not what happened.” Cindy was desperate now, the tears burning up, she just wanted three words, just three. Let him say it, she was begging.

“What happened then Cindy what happened?” Complete determination was scrawled across his face, that and the wet smears.

“I was upset, after what happened with my mum and everything. I looked for comfort, it’s all I wanted, just someone to say it’s alright and everything’s fine. You couldn’t give me that you wouldn’t have understood.” The tears spilling freely across her face, the windswept hair and smudged make up almost gave her a comical feature.

“Wouldn’t under. How would you know whether I’d understand or not, you didn’t come to me to begin with anyway.” The hardened look in his eyes frightened the girl, she stepped back. Over every thing she was angry, she wanted him to shout and rave. He hadn’t, he’d been upset, but he hadn’t even raised his voice at her.

“James, I love you. I love you.” Her heart had been ripped from her she felt as if it was being burnt in front of her very eyes.

The end for her, and she fell to her knees as she heard what he had to say. The increasing desperation, she just wanted it to be a sad fairy tale just a story. But it wasn’t, and she cursed her subconscious for it.

“How can I love someone I don’t trust?” With that James turned and left the girl with her tears imprinted on the ground and her windswept hair dancing around her.
