Smoke rose from the porch
like it was burning
like she was burning and almost boiling over
life bubbled from her
"life is fragile"
she said
as fragile as the wood supporting us
slowly decaying, creaking with age,
filled with so much it can't behold
fragile as metal shells, speeding into the dark
as you headlights on my face
as you breath mixing with mine
because a word can cause everything to dissolve
your eyes vanish into the air
your face is nothing, a void I can't reach
life clings to the world in places
in patchy cobwebs
it could fall
or leave you hanging here
she said
it's hard but I cling to it
to the threadbare remains of us,
you left in my house
you watched the world spin around
and could fall into blackness and not see it
and she moves like a bird upwards
but it gets us all in time
