There she goes… the woman with the sad eyes
Every time I see her, she calmly walks by…
Yet, she’s breathing heavily.
Her eyes meet mine and she smiles slightly.
I notice that the smile doesn’t reach her eyes.
Why are you breathing so hard, young woman?
Are you perhaps trying to run from the demons in your mind?
I want to reach out for her but her eyes have fallen back to the ground.
Why do you think you are unworthy to look at the sky?
She turns somewhat and I see the dark scars on her wrists.
Do you need to hurt yourself to feel emotions?
As usual, her earphones are planted in her ears.
Do you believe that you are unworthy to embrace the sounds of nature?
I need to tell her that when there are people who cause pain…
There will also be people to heal you.
For those people who hate you and cause you to hate…
There are people who will show you how to love and love in return.
I open my mouth to tell her these things, but she’s gone.
I see her retreating back and her slumped shoulders.
I’ll keep my thoughts of you to myself…
Until another day, just keep holding on.
There is always hope.
