Chasing Emily

Epilogue

I look around, wary of my surroundings, trying to spot a glimpse of human skin. Or more specifically Jason’s skin, or even a bit of his clothes. I squint my eyes and hesitantly put my hand down on the tap, keeping watch around me as I go. I start to twist it around and unscrew the top of my water gun, bringing it under the water flow and keeping my hand on the trigger just in case.

But I don’t hear, or see, anything. It’s kind of making me even more suspicious. I mean, what kind of boy – why would Jason let go the chance of getting a cheap shot at me while I’m refilling? I glance down at my gun and spot that it’s nearly filled up and that’s when I hear footsteps.

I bring by gun away from the tap, and screw up both the tap and my water gun, spinning around, bringing trigger back and then releasing; the super soaker lets out a stream of water right in Jason’s mum’s face.

“Want some –” She starts, but then trails off, blinking as water drips down her face, “ – lemonade.”

I drop the water gun and Jason comes running around the corner behind me, gun poised, well that’s until he sees his mum in front of me, dripping. I open my mouth and my eyes widen. Oh my God. I just shot my boyfriends mum in face with a water gun.

Jason steps up beside me, his own water gun limp in his hand as he brings his other hand to his face. Jason’s mum, Diane, puts the lemonade tray down on the garden bench next to her and brings her hand into a pocket, pulling out a handkerchief.

“Well, that was refreshing I suppose.” she laughs under her breath and wipes down her face. I stare at her, stammering, and she raises her eyebrows. “What’s wrong love? You look awful shocked.”

Jason, beside me, starts to shake, and brings his hand over his mouth. I narrow my eyes and step on his foot; but it only encourages him. I manage to get out a few words, all of them rushed, “I’m so sorry. I – I thought you were Jason...we’re...we were playing...having a water fight and I just – I shot. I did it without thinking.

Jason lets out a snort and starts laughing into his hand. I press down harder on his foot but still, it doesn’t affect him at all. “I seriously...what can I do to make it up to you?”

She just shakes her head, holding up her hands in a no no sort of fashion, “Oh, Emily, it’s just a bit of water. Just drink some lemonade.” She picks up the tray and again and walks forward, smiling and holding it out to me. “Lemonade.”

“Lemonade?” I echo in horror. Not that I mean lemonade is bad or anything. But she’s offering lemonade to me after shooting her in the face with a stream of really, really cold water. I more imagined her stealing the water gun and chasing me around the yard with it. Not that she’d do that sort of thing but...well, I’d deserve it if she did.

“Lemonade,” Jason repeats and grabs a glass, downing half a glass and winking at his mother, “thanks mum. I’ll try to hold her down next time. She’s trigger happy.”

I feel my face grow red and Jason’s mother rolls her eyes at him and looks at me, winking and saying in a fake whisper, “Don’t worry; he’s shot worse at me, like when he was a baby this one time I was changing his na –”

“Mum.” Jason, finishing the rest of his lemonade, puts it back on the tray. “Leave. Now.”

Jason’s mum lets out a chuckle, handing me the lemonade and walking back off in the other direction. I smile and take a sip from the lemonade, and feel Jason’s arms envelope me and his lips touch my neck and whisper into it, “Never mention that again.”

Laughing softly I bring a hand to his cheek and stroke it, “Don’t count on it Jase.”

Jason snorts into my neck and moves back, swinging up his water gun and blasting me in the face. I drop my lemonade in shock and he runs off in the other direction like a coward. I narrow my eyes to slits and snatch up my water gun, running after him immediately and narrowly missing a stream of water heading my way by diving behind a tree.

“You’re dead,” I say, swiping at the drops dripping from my own face this time and running out after him, letting out a stream of water that squirts him right on the ass. I let out a warrior cry of glee and he spins around, and I still running – run right into him.

We both topple to the floor. I lift my head from Jason’s cheek and stare into his eyes, and he stares back at me, beaming. “To another great summer.” I say and bring my fingers to his neck, playing with the back of his hair that is a mess entangled with green grass.

He tilts his head up, kissing me as his arms wrap around me. I snuggle down into the warmth despite the hot summer sun beating down on my back and close my eyes.

“Another great summer.” He whispers in agreement, rubbing his nose with mine.

OoooOOOoooO

Well. That’s the end of that! Thankyou for all reviews – they really do make my day! I had a lot of fun writing this, even when last night I discovered I left this chapter on my old computer...and so I had to write it all over again! But this one is better, don’t worry.

LOVE ME HATE ME BUT ALL OF THE BOYS AND ALL OF THE GIRLS ARE BEGGING TO IF YOU SEEK AMY! Haha. I love this song. So much. It’s got my name in it and it’s got a hidden message which in turn makes it the best song ever made.

You know you love me,

Xoxo.
