A/N: I'm in need of a betta-reader for this story. Anyone interested?
In the meantime -- if you see any mistakes, please inform me. It'll be highly appreciated.
Please note that this is a Prologue, future chapters will be longer.
The sound of quick footsteps and fast sharp breaths bounced off of the rocky walls and ceiling, killing the silence that had once kept the caves of these lands.
It sounded like someone was on the run, but due to the darkness it was hard to see from what.
“Stay with me…” came the silent whisper of a young female, presumably to be the person to whom the footsteps belonged to.
“Please…” the voice said a bit louder now, sounding hoarse with angst. The footsteps seemed to come to a quick halt and a shifting sound was made, like the person on the run was carrying something very heavy, but didn’t want to drop. She desperately tried to get a better grip on the ‘luggage’, but after a few more meters of running she had no choice but to drop it softly on the ground.
The muscles in her arms hurt so bad she was afraid that they might fall off. While stretching her bare arms above her head, she kept a worried gaze on the unmoving black lump, which she had placed ever so gently on the ground.
Looking closely, it appeared to be another person, and going off by its outlines it appeared to be a young man. His legs were spread out over the ground, arms hanging limb by his side. The head was leaning towards the left, the back resting against the cold stone of the cave wall.
“We’ll just…take a quick rest….okay?” the female explained between sharp intakes of breath. It appeared that she had run for quite some time. By the way she looked over her shoulder it was clear that she wasn’t sure if they were in the safe zone yet.
Whatever they were running from, it got her on the edge.
After stretching her aging limbs, she took a seat next to her friend, looking at him from aside. She bit her lip as her eyes scanned his emotionless face, her eyes still worried but there was also a hint of panic noticeable.
“Hey…?” Slowly she reached a hand towards an arm of the person next to her. When her fingertips reached the dead cold skin a look of pure shock and horror was shown on her face.
“Hey! Stay awake!” she said as loud as possible, which was nothing more then a squeaky whisper.
“Look at me.” She placed both hands on each side of his shoulders and moved closer towards him, leaning on her knees, so that she was facing him somewhat. “You are not going to die.” came a not so convinced statement from the woman, while she shook his shoulders a bit harder then she intended. “You are not going to die! Do you hear me!”
The man’s wobbled forth and back against the hard stone wall; it was the only reply she got.
She could feel the tears sting her eyes now and shortly after that her cheeks were all wet from the salty fluid. A soft sob escaped her lips as she let her head fall against his shoulder, the despair had finally caught up with her.
“Don’t die…"
