‘I can not say that I ever expected for such to happen like this. I did not ever think it would come down to a point in time that I would be yearning over something so impossible to possess. I mean...Adam, how do you even win the heart over of a person such as him? Did he even have one? The kid was just too quiet and hardly spoke. Yet, I wanted him despite it all. I don't know what it is about him that just...draws me in. An unknown magnetic force. I'm attracted to him that is all I can quite say at the moment. He is a pretty little thing. Too bad he is the brother of my best friend.’ – Evann Lovato.
Evann Lovato sat on the bed playing video games with his best friend. Buttons were being pressed as grunts were emitted. It did not take long for the health bar of player 2 to fully disappear and the words Finish Him to appear on the screen. Buttons were pressed in a memorized pattern before the on screen character performed a deadly fatality. A loud scream could be heard as flesh was pulled from the bone, blood coating the cold floor. The boys stared at the sight bored; this was nothing new to them. A fatality that they surely have seen over a good 25 times already. The door opened shortly after, the boys already starting another round of the video game.
In walked two adults, a man and a woman that were about attached to the hip. The woman was beautiful, looking rather young for her age. She appeared about 27, when she was a good 8 years older than that. Long dark brown hair fell down her back in soft curls, her blue eyes seemed to sparkle with life as her rosy pink lips upturned into a smile. Her husband held his wife close to him, his arm wrapped around her waist gently. The male looked weak, dressed in a suit that showed his lean and rather bony build. Freckles dotted across his nose and cheeks, chestnut brown hair brushed to the right, and black round framed glasses rested just above his nose. Just from looking at him, one could tell he was an lawyer. He just had that air about him that made you just know. It was rather hard to explain when it came down to it, but surely you know what is being spoken of. The male glanced at his son and his friend with disgust. The negative emotion was not directed to his son in particular. He loved his son and held no ill feelings towards the male. No, his look of distaste was directed to the other boy. Evann. Oh how he hated the boy so. The boy that was a menace and complete pain in his ass.
The boys paused their game to wait for what the two adults had to say. They already had a slight idea as to what it may be about. The two adults were to be leaving tonight for their 17th anniversary. Due to it being a rather special occasion for them, they decided to dedicate the whole weekend to the occasion. Leaving Friday night and returning Monday morning.
“Adam is in his room. Emergency numbers are posted on the refrigerator, just in case something happens. Our cell phones will always be on.” The woman would of continued on if her husband did not stop her. He wanted to get to the hotel before 10PM, something that would be impossible if he allowed his over protective wife to carry on. He waved the boys goodbye as he escorted his wife out of the room. He looked over his shoulder to give Evann a serious look before making a slitted neck motion. He hated that child. Damn his wife for allowing the boy to stay at their house as they were away.
Evann glanced at the clock on the dresser besides the bed. Large red numbers flashed brightly. 7:03PM He smiled pleased before setting the controller down on the floor, if throwing it down meant the same thing that is. “Woot! Home Aloneee!” He did not live at the Iker family home, but he was a known regular there. He was the best friend of the eldest son there, Kristopher Iker. He moved back a bit and proceeded on standing up. Mis-colored eyes, one brown and the other blue, moved to stare at the bouncing menace. “Stop jumping on my bed.”
The bouncing fiend did not stop. He did not relent or give up. Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. The bouncing fiend would not stop. Up. Down. Up. Down. The bouncing fiend could not stop. Up. Down. Down. The bouncing fiend was now laying on the bed. “My head hurtsss.” Laughter filled his ears as he looked up to stare at the boy staring at him. Chestnut brown hair that resembled that of his father, brushed forward into what some may call a cowlick. “That is what you get.” A cool voice leaving from his throat showing that he already hit puberty. He stood from his bed and walked over to his closet, “Keep watch by the window, let me know when they are gone for good.”
Evann watched his friend's parents drive out from the driveway and take off to their desired destination. He turned around to watch his friend put on a Denim jean jacket and shove his wallet into his pants pocket. “Where are we going?” Kristopher raised an eyebrow in question, “We are not going anywhere. I am going to go take Lily out on a date.”
“Lily?”
“Yes, Lily. The new student in Mrs. Dillard's class. My new girlfriend.”
A grin spread upon Evann's lips, “Aww, how cute and adorable. Krissy has grown all up and got himself a girlfriend. Finally.”
Kristopher glared at his immature best friend. “First girlfriend, but certainly not the last. Maybe you will one day find yourself a girlfriend as well. Until then, I got myself a date with the smokin' Lily.” He walked away annoyed, acting as if he was more mature and superior than his best friend. Evann played it no mind as he sat back on his friend's bed. The front door slammed to announce of Kristopher's departure. He looked at the television with a sigh. Fighter Video Games were not as much fun alone as they were with another person. He turned the game system off and left the room to find something to do. He headed to the kitchen, thinking it was a good idea to get some food into his stomach. Mercury blue eyes rose in complete shock as he found the refrigerator to be chained and locked. “What the fuck is wrong with that man? Damn you Mr. Iker!” He ran a slim finger along the chains before walking away sadly. He did not know how he would survive, a day without raiding the Iker refrigerator...it was unheard of!
He felt awkward being alone in a house that did not belong to him. He could always go back home and run into his mother. Wow, being home alone sounded like such a blast compared to that option. The bitch was probably on the couch drinking away her sorrows. He headed back towards Kristopher's room to find the room next door was open. His eyes widened, did Adam leave his room? He looked around himself quickly before walking into the room, this was a chance that he could not pass up. He always wondered how Adam's room looked. Adam was so...quiet. They say that one's room could tell you a lot about a person. He hardly knew anything about Adam, he was a mystery to him. A mystery that was finally going to be solved.
He was expecting complete darkness. You know...no lights on, walls black, and skulls hanging from the ceiling. The typical gothic room. He was surprised to find that the room was nothing of that sort. Instead of the big overhead light being on, there was a big floor lamp turned on in one corner of the room. The blinds were removed from the windows and in their place was a large black sheet. Normally, this would make any room look tacky and well...tacky. However, Adam had gave it a small white border made out of the blinds. It looked quite nice, yet time consuming. The bed comforter was indeed black, but the neon green sheets and pillows made it not seem so..dark. Evann could not stop comparing every single thing to the Spooky Gothic Image he had in his mind. Adam dressed in a fashion that kids at school called 'Goth' or 'Emo.' His room did not look spooky or like he had suicidal thoughts all the time. His room looked...creative and unique. Evann was fascinated with it. He would of kept observing it, if he was not shaken from his observings by a loud cough.
Evann turned around to find cool gray eyes staring at him bored. He blushed as he found himself caught by Adam. “Uh...Hey man.”
“What are you doing in my room?” Adam did not care for small talk, he just wanted to get to the issue at hand.
Evann ran a hand through his short brown hair nervously, he was embarrassed for getting caught. He knew he should of left before Adam decided to return. “Well..you left the door open.”
“And, you decided to be the good Samaritan and come invade my room.”
Ouch. For a kid that hardly talked, he sure had a way with words when he finally did talk. “Everyone left, it is just you and me here alone.”
“Great, want to have a tea party in everyone's absence?”
“Sure!” Evann exclaimed cheerfully.
“I was being sarcastic.”
“And, I was not?”
Adam brought a hand to his mouth, attempting to hide the small smile that threatened to arise. Evann grinned brightly, proud of himself for getting the younger teen to smile. “I like your room.”
Adam stared at Evann with slight confusion before folding his arms across his chest. “May I enter my own room now?”
Evann acted as if he was deep in thought before smiling and denying the male entrance in his own room. “Naa, I think I like it here. Mine now.”
“Not funny. Now, step aside.”
“You are not being very nice.”
“You won't let me in my own room!”
“You should of not left it wide open for capture.”
“I had to go to the fucking bathroom.”
“Not my problem.”
Adam looked ready to explode in a fit of anger before Evann stepped to the side and walked over to Adam's bed. Adam walked into the room and frowned as Evann sat on his bed. “You can leave now.”
“Don't want to. I think I'm going to give you some company kid.”
“I'm one year younger than you.”
“So..”
“That means I'm not a kid.”
“Whatever Kid.”
Adam groaned in frustration as he walked over to his computer. It was going to be a 'longggggg' night.

Author Note: I'm not satisfied with this chapter, but I needed to write something. Anything. I have the characters already made and many ideas as to what I want to happen. My problem is that I don't know how I want the story to actually start. I do intend for Evann to be in good standings with his mother...but for now, I will settle with her being an alcoholic. The story is to be set in Elma, Texas. If you ever watched the Disney movie The Big Green, it is that setting. I want it to be...well, simple. I found some pictures of how I plan to make Evann look and it inspired the setting and 2 of the characters. I have changed this story quite a bit from how I originally had it planned to be. They were all going to be rich kids and Evann's mother was a gold digging whore. “The Black Widow,” as some may say. Most of the story will be set a good 3 years ahead of this chapter. In this chapter, Kristopher, Evann, & Lily are in 8th grade. Adam, being a year younger, is in 7th grade. Therefore, we can assume...ages 13-12. I am working on a site for the story, I will try to include some cool things on it and such. Once I get further into the writing process, I may post updates on the site a day or two before I post them on Fiction Press. I don't know just yet. I do hope to finish this story one day and get it published. I need to get serious about something, so I will be giving this story my all.
