She spends weeks preparing:
banner making displayed her flair
for cutting out felt grapes
and reading through a book of saints
to choose a special name
was morbidly fascinating.

It is a mature perfecting
of her relationship with God;
she gets to choose where to take the family
for brunch afterwards.

Years later, out of touch and no longer a ‘member’
of said church she’ll only remember
that her confirmation name was Elizabeth
and her uncle got food poisoning
from his Filet-O-Fish.
