Hitomi: Well, well…

XD I should’ve done this earlier this week. But I had school, so… Oooh, I don’t think I’ll make my deadline in time…

Well, as you all know, Halloween is coming up soon. And Trish/Kasimi has been holding a Halloween contest on the YnH: AR forums. She wants participants AKA artists and writers, so…

As the creator/writer of YnH: AR, I plan on participating. However, I just hope I can make it in time on Halloween, which is the deadline. Though she did say she will extend the deadline, as I am in the Philippines right now…

But, let’s see if I can make something out of this.

Yami no Hikari: Halloween Chronicles

Fragment I

The Horrors of a Yamato Nadeshiko

(Never push her to the limit.

If you do, she’ll do something worse than her usual punishment when angry!)

“I’m sorry.” He said again for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day, though unable to hide that slight grin that surfaced onto his face.

He was dressed like a butler; in a black tux and a white polo with a necktie, black formal pants, and dark red hair spiked up. And though he was really sorry about what he did, gold eyes sparkled with amusement.

“This time, you better mean it!” A female voice hiccupped with traces of sobs, delicate hands rubbing her eyes to stop the tears. “That wasn’t funny, Rai-kun! You’re lucky that I’ve not resorted to physical violence unlike Hitomi-chan and Aiko-chan! And if I ever do, you would dead a thousand times worse than in the battlefield!”

She, on the other hand, was in a pink and white maid outfit that looked like it was designed in the sweet Lolita style. Light lilac hair was pulled back into a half ponytail, goldenrod yellow eyes still brimmed with what tears were left. And still, she brought her hands up to her face and rubbed them, making sure they were gone for good.

Still hitching air, her usual serene gaze was set into a frown—maybe, if she was oh-so-furious, even a glare—that was shot towards the boy behind her.

“I mean, really! Just because it’s Halloween today doesn’t mean that you can just go and scare me like that! That’s just mean of you, Rai-kun!”

“I said I was sorry, Miyu-dono.” Rai Kumono apologized yet again, bowing as if begging, in his own way, for forgiveness. “But, I have to admit, the look on your face was rather priceless…” However, he was unable to let go of the fact that he had scared his girlfriend good.

As it was Halloween at this time, you know how it is. The tradition of ghosts and monsters, ghost hunting as well as scary stories and, of course, Trick or Treat. Rai had taken the opportunity to frighten Miyu with many things on this day. He had terrified her with the speculation of ghosts, tricked her countless times into thinking that such things will come out on this day, and made her panic with ghost stories.

“Say any more and I will sic Hitomi-chan on you, I guarantee it. Knowing her, she’s not going to let this go when she hears that you’re doing this to me.” Miyu Koubayashi said coldly, dusting off her apron as she still walked ahead of him, red heeled shoes eliciting a clopping sound on the concrete. Right now, they were on their way back to the Kyuusai Academy dorms, dark shades of blue and purple painting the sky into nightfall.

“Ah, all right…” He immediately stopped teasing her, thoughts of the black-haired tsundere beating him to a bloody pulp. He gulped, torn between teasing the gentle girl some more and saving his own skin if his best friend’s lover was going to hear of this.

Shuffling through her pockets, she took out her key and unlocked the door to her room. And she slowly opened the door, seeing that darkness greeted her eyes.

“Hmmm, it is a little eerie with it like this, especially with Halloween in the air.” She laughed a little, looking around for the switch. “Isn’t it, Rai-kun?”

There was no answer.

“Rai-kun?”

Still, there was no response.

“Don’t tell me…” Miyu turned around and see that he had gone.

And she jolted as she heard sounds into her room.

“Rai…? Please, don’t do this. I’m not amused.” Her voice hardened into a serious one, trying to swallow down the fear that was now building up. “Come out, Rai-kun. Please?”

Creaking can be heard now. And forcing herself to move forward, Miyu entered the black room. Unable to see, she started to look for the light switch with dread upon her mind.

The creaking continued on. From what she could tell, it sounded like metal scraping.

“W-Who’s there R-Rai-kun?” Miyu asked boldly, trying all she could on not to scream.

Nothing happened, things were standing still. But then, what greeted her were four pairs of red eyes.

“W-Wha…?” A chill came down her spine and her fair complexion lightened into a ghostly white. Her hand groping around in the dark, she felt the handle of a flashlight. Almost dropping it, hands shaking, she switched it on and moved it around. Finding what she was looking for, she went towards the light switch and turned it on.

She almost dropped the flashlight in surprise, seeing what was occupying the room. What owned the eyes was a giant, metal tarantula spider. It was bigger than her, that’s for sure, but it didn’t quite reach the ceiling. Still, Miyu felt fear take over her completely, the size of the mechanical creature overwhelming.

“This is… Ahhh…” She couldn’t shriek anymore, she couldn’t move. But because she was frozen with fright, the spider took the opportunity of this and started scurrying towards her.

“No, you don’t!” Closing her eyes, trying to calm down, she felt magic flowing all over her body.

Shesa kcalb otni seimene ruoy etarenicni, eirf! Thaed dloc a ni meht rettahs dna peels lanrete na otni seof ruoy eezerf, eci! Wordlessly completing the incantation, a purple ball formed into her hand, combining the elements of both fire and ice.

ONREFNI EULB! Throwing the orb towards it, the impact was strong. Once colliding with its metallic hide, the sphere exploded, causing a ring of blue fire to erupt and consume the abomination, forming ice as it stayed onto its steely coat for more than five seconds.

Watching it slowly perish, Miyu sighed in relief, feeling blood come back to her face.

But her ease was not for long. As much damaged as the mechanical monster was, it was still able to operate.

“No… That’s impossible.” She mouthed silently to herself, feeling her body shifting into a defensive stance. “That was one of my strongest spells… This isn’t good…”

Feeling more magic still present, she began casting all she had to destroy it. But just as it seemed it had begun weakening, it was still functioning as if nothing happened.

Having run out of energy, she had no choice but to run, trying to get away from its pursuit. However, she was cornered because of its enormous size. Once it had her where it wanted her, the spider pounced on her. In the process of ambushing her, it had released its threads, forming a web around to trap her.

“Ah!” Feeling pain shoot in her body, Miyu opened her eyes and saw the spider was directly in front of her. Its fangs were bared, ready to eat its prey.

“No… This is… No! No, no, no!” She cried out, trying to escape from her demise. Unfortunately for her, this was the inevitable.

“I DON’T WANT TO DIE!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, unable to hold back her fear any longer.

Just as it was close enough to devour her, a sharp clang erupted from behind.

“Don’t touch her with your dirtiness, you beast.” A cold voice called into the room.

“Rai—”

The spider snarled, quickly turning around to target the swordsman.

“Rai-kun, don’t get hurt too much!”

“Don’t worry, it won’t take long!”

As the spider was ready to pin him down with its legs, he had immediately disappeared from sight. And it looked around, trying to hunt down for him.

“Up here, you ugly bitch!”

Looking up, Rai was already diving down, his large katana unsheathed and glowing green. Air now was building up into the room as he fell down, coming from the sword. Without hesitating, he continued plunging downwards, a strong wind picking up as he cleaved the spider in half.

The force was tough, the air having exploded into a strong gust when the last collision had been made. And now, the steely eyesore ceased, eyes having stopped glowing. Fluid leaked out of its body like blood and some of its legs were convulsing eerily before it finally stopped.

“Pain in the ass…” Rai mumbled under his breath, looking towards Miyu and going up to her. His sword still out, he already began to cut the threads of the web and sheathed the blade, helping the girl get up.

“Are you all right, Miyu-dono?” He asked in a concerned, with a bit of suave, voice.

“…Scared.” This was all he got from her.

“Hm?”

“I was scared…” She was starting to cry. “I got very, very scared…” Her body was shaking violently, tears spilling down to the floor.

For a moment, he had said nothing, a hand reaching out to her tentatively. Reaching her shoulder, his arm pulled her close to his body, rocking her back and forth as if to calm her down from crying.

They had stayed like that in silence for a long time. But then… Rai started to chuckle a little. As each second passed, his chortles were getting louder. Before then, he started to laugh hysterically.

“E-Eh?” Miyu looked up at him, puzzled. “Rai-kun?”

“I-I’m sorry, Miyu-dono!” He apologized in between laughs, letting go of her as he was now clutching his sides. “The spider that was going after you… I asked Hideki if he could build one for Halloween! And then, I decided to use you for its target this Halloween!”

This entirely stunned her. She could do nothing. She tried speaking, but her voice wouldn’t come out.

Finally, after pulling herself together from the news, she had asked in a faint voice, “What… What did you say?”

“I’m sorry! I’m really sorry!” He was still laughing. “I know I shouldn’t have done that, but I couldn’t resist! And besides, now that I know it frightened you, I can sic this on Kei! The thing’s harmless, anyway, and it could’ve been switched off with this!” He held up a small remote control, which only contained a red button on it.

This really shocked her. And now, after hearing all of this, she already affirmed on what she would do.

“I see…” She assessed in a small voice, goldenrod eyes with a mischievous glint in it. “So, that’s how it is… So, you were using that to scare me… Again.”

“Yes, yes.” His laughing finally quieted down and he was smiling apologetically. “But, I’m really sorry for it, seriously. You’re not… Mad at me… Are you?”

“…No.” Confused and surprised by her answer, he looked up at her, seeing her smile.

“Wait… You’re not mad?” He was reassured to hear this. But one can’t help but think that he was going to get punished for this soon enough.

“No, I’m not, Rai-kun.” She answered back with a gentle voice, though the smile feels out of place to him.

“Really?”

“Really.”

“I see… Then, thank you, Miyu-dono, for being a good sport in this. Again, my apologies.”

With only a nod as her response, Miyu went to the living room.

But, just as Rai was going to settle himself onto the couch, he saw that Miyu had a couple of equipment with her: a chair, rope, duct tape, and adhesive tape.

“Miyu-dono, what are you d—” He had been cut off as Miyu dragged him off to the chair. Without saying anything, and ignoring Rai’s protests, she tied him up tightly to the chair with the rope and secured the bind with duct tape.

“Like I said, I’m not mad.” She spoke with her serene, kind voice. And she was still smiling all the while. “I’m not mad at all. I’m FURIOUS. And now, Rai-kun, you’ve done it. I know one of your biggest weaknesses, so prepare yourself. And I will warn you… This is worse than me food poisoning you on purpose when I’m mad… By the end of this, you’ll WISH you would prefer my food poisoning instead…”

Going to the front of the TV, she bent down to the TV table’s cabinet and got out a stack of DVDS from there.

“No… That isn’t… Don’t tell me those are…” Now, it was Rai’s turn to be pale, feeling very big regret right now.

“Yes.” She retorted softly, an innocent smile on her face. “These are romance movies as well as TV shows. I know you can’t tolerate a lot of mushy stuff, so this is perfect. And for what remains of Halloween, we’ll watch these until midnight. I told you not to get me really angry, Rai-kun, but you don’t listen to me.”

“Ah… Hey… Have mercy…”

“No, I won’t give you any. You had your chance and, now, you blew it.” Getting out eight pieces of adhesive tape, she went over to him. Lifting both of his upper eyelids, she stuck two pieces of tape each on them as well as his lower eyelids.

“Don’t even think the tape will come off easily. To make sure they will last until midnight, I did put a bit of superglue on them. Now then, are you ready? Tonight, the first thing we’re going to watch is Ten Things I Hate about You! And after that, next will be Brokeback Mountain! Don’t worry, there will be a lot more after that.”

“Oh no… Please, Miyu-dono, anything but this… Please! Forgive me! I won’t do it again, I promise!”

Ignoring Rai and putting the DVD in the DVD player, Miyu sat back onto the couch and played it with the remote control.

And all throughout the night, the whole academy can hear girly screams of “KYAAAH!” “MY EYES! NOOO!” “TOO MUCH MUSH! JUST KILL ME!” and “AHHH! BOY LOVE! IT BURNS!”

Hitomi: (grins) Well, did you like it? Yes, that is one of Rai’s weaknesses, not liking romance too much. I’m pretty sure I kept these two in character, anyway, never mind the fact Miyu will not make an official appearance yet until the Hotaru arc is over and, thus, no Rai x Miyu development yet. XD But I think Miyu may have slight yandere in her because of this and the food poisoning, hehehe.

Anyway, glad I got accomplished with this, and I’m glad to be able to make the deadline. And I shall be making the four other chapters soon.

But… I wonder which other couple I should decide on writing next. Of course, I do plan on writing Keiya x Hitomi last. XD After all, Keiya is Rai’s best friend and he’s going to be the last to suffer.

So, gotta pick between Kohaku x Hotaru, Naoki x Azami, and Hideki x Aiko.

(evil grin) This is going to be fun!
