Chapter Four
They walked for five minutes before they arrived at an aged, three-story house. “Wow...” Kira murmured, taking in the old building.
“This is the place. If you need me just call me, and I will assist you in any way possible.” The spirit hound said in its deathly voice.
“But what is your name?” Kira asked, looking at the spirit hound.
“What ever name you desire, I belong to you now.” Answered the spirit hound, looking back at Kira with a dead stare.
“What? How?” Kira asked.
“I am a gift to you from him.” it said, “Do you need anything right now?”
“Well, I don't know my way around this place,” Kira admitted.
“He will help you with that. Is that all? May I go now?” it asked.
“You may go,” Kira answered as she watched the dog fade, “Wait!”
“Yes?” It asked.
“May I call you Spirit?”
“If you will it, I will answer to the name Spirit then.” It faded completely.
Kira walked up to the house and opened the door. Revealed to her were wooden floors that had a glossy texture to them, a chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and a spiral wooden staircase that lead to the second and third stories of the house. Off to the side, another set of stairs that led to what Kira thought could be the basement.
A voice came into her head, ‘you can leave them there; my other servants will take them to the right place. If you want to sleep, there is a bedroom made for you on the second floor, it's the first door on the right.’
Kira went up to the second story and did just that. When she walked through the door, she immediately noticed a queen-sized bed with curtains hanging around it, and another door that probably led to the bathroom. She went over to the bed and set her stuff next to it, falling onto the bed herself. The bed was soft as air, welcoming her into a deep sleep.
Kira woke up and looked around anxiously, shortly forgetting where she was. Shaking her head to clear away the haziness of sleep, she got out of bed and headed down to the first floor. His voice came to her head again, ‘Do you want to eat first or do you want your revenge?’
‘I want them to suffer.’ Kira said coldly, glaring as she did.
‘You need to eat to keep up your strength. Then you can use all of your power against them.’ he told her.
‘Fine, where is the food kept?’ Kira asked, looking around irritably.
‘It is kept behind that door in front of you. There is deer and rabbit, among other things. There is also human, but you probably won't eat that.’
‘Why do you have that?’ Kira asked, walking toward the door
‘Many of my guest like it.’
‘I'll stick with the deer.’ Kira went through the cupboard and took out some deer. After she was done, she went back to the entrance. ‘So where are they?’ Kira inquired, but nothing responded until his voice came from behind her.
“I'm not in your head anymore, if you’re trying to talk to me.” Kira spun around to see a person in a black cloak with red trimmings.
“Where are they being kept and why are you here in person?”
He laughed, “Eager to cause them pain? I am here to see you actually do it. Now come, I will show you.” he went to the stairs that lead downward. With Kira in tow, they descended the stairs and came to a hallway lined by several doors and cells. The cloaked person continued to go deeper, Kira catching the sound of screams as they passed some of the doors. She continued to follow him down the hallway, ignoring the yowls of pain and screams of help as they passed the doors.
Finally, they stopped. Kira looked in the door and saw her victims hanging from the ceiling by their hands. She felt her anger flare and wished she could rip them apart with her bare hands.
“The devices you can use are behind that door,” he pointed to a steel door in the room on the far left. Kira went straight to the door and picked out as many as she could.
All night long, they screamed, begging her to stop, but she denied their request. She could never forgive them for killing Zeke. They wished she would end their lives, but against her better judgment, she left them alive. She would have killed them, but he told her that he had a more painful death for them. So, she resisted. Kira went back to her room and washed the blood off before collapsing on the bed and falling asleep.
The sound of a cell phone ringing woke Kira from her slumber. She picked it up and flicked it open, “Hello?” She asked groggily.
“A giant snake is coming straight for us, please you have to help us!” a man’s voice pleaded.
Kira thought for a second, ‘Should I help him?’ She had too; it was her duty to protect them from the beasts that they cannot kill themselves.
“Where are you?” She asked him.
“In a town called Thira.” he answered gratefully.
“OK. I’ll be there as quick as I can.” She hung up her cell and got ready to leave. She jumped as she faced the door, startled by the man standing in the doorway.
“Going somewhere?” He asked.
“I have another job. I have to-” he interrupted her,
“You don't have to protect those humans,” he hissed venomously.
“How else are they to protect themselves? I can't stand around and do nothing!” She felt her temper rising.
He sighed. “Fine, go and protect the ones who need you, and then try to kill you when you’re no longer needed,” he turned to leave, “Just be careful, you can't trust them. And get your spirit hound to walk you out of the woods - it will know where to go.” He walked away. She thought for a moment about what he said, before leaving anyway, finding Spirit waiting for her outside.
“Follow me,” it said. She followed him until the edge of the forest, “Keep going west and you will find Thira.” and it vanished once again.
Kira continued to walk west, occasionally hearing a twig snap while she was walking. She stopped after a faint hiss caught her attention. She looked around at her surroundings, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Everything was quiet.
Suddenly, the snake whipped out its tail and knocked Kira onto her back. She jumped back to her feet only find nothing around. She heard another faint hiss behind her; she turned around to meet a fifty-foot snake with venom-filled fangs.
It flicked out its forked tongue and hissed again, whipping out its tail to knock her onto her stomach. She picked her self up and pulled out her sword swiftly, turning to strike at it. However, the snake was gone again. She realized it was just toying with her as she heard another hiss. This time she was ready.
Kira turned around; ready to attack when once again, she found nothing there. Another hiss came from behind her, but this time instead of knocking her down the snake picked her up by her waist. Lashing out, Kira tried to wound the snake with her sword, but its hide was too thick.
She was in trouble. She couldn't reach her gun that was in the holster on her waist.
The snake began to squeeze her midsection, sending shots of pain through her body. Kira was going numb, losing consciousness with every second. She couldn't breathe anymore. A loud hiss echoed around her as she fell into the consuming darkness.
‘Am I dead? Is this... death?’ Darkness embraced her, ‘No… This isn't death... I can still feel... I think.’ Kira opened her eyes, the bright light caused her to gasp and close them again.
“You need rest. Your wounds will heal faster if you sleep. Don't worry, I will protect you,” a voice in the darkness told her.
Kira began to drift off. ‘That voice, so familiar but… who is it?’ The darkness took her once again.
Kira awoke with pain grasping her body. She looked around and saw a fire blazing. She was staring at it, when a voice called out.
“Are you okay Master?” the voice asked. Kira looked around and saw Spirit
“I‘ll be fine soon enough. Are you the one who saved me?” Kira asked.
“No, he did.” Spirit said, pointing his head toward the other presence. Kira looked over and saw Thomas; he was asleep on the ground.
She sat up and grabbed her stuff. “Where are you going?” Spirit asked.
“I'm leaving, before he gets up.” She whispered and left. Spirit disappeared as she walked deeper into the woods. ‘I should go to Flowroa it's the least I could do for Zeke.’ She thought to herself.
Kira started heading toward Flowroa, when she got there, there was lava flowing like a river. She walked farther in to the volcanic region. Suddenly a bird's cry called out and Kira was ambushed.
They all attacked her at once; she was pushed and kicked to the ground. A swift attack to the head knocked her out.
Kira awoke in a cell of some type, chained to the wall.
“You’re finally awake,” a voice droned out from the back of the room. The figure emerged out of the darkness. It was the Displacer beast.
“How d-did you know I was c-coming?” Kira managed to say.
“I will let the dracolich tell you, it’s not my place.” It left the cell. Kira was exhausted form the fight, but she kept herself from sleeping so they wouldn’t catch her off guard again. The dracolich came in about an hour later.
“So I guess your wondering how we knew you were coming?” the dracolich taunted. “You really shouldn't trust anyone, Kira. Of course, I can't complain, Zeke paid in advance.”
Kira couldn't believe Zeke did that to her. Anger consumed her body; a dark aura surrounded her, as the chains broke loose from the power of it. She was hovering in the air, her eyes glowing red. “You all shall pay for what he has done!” Kira said in a demonic voice. She summoned a blade from nowhere. The obsidian sword had dark blue flames coming from the blade. One by one she slain them all, they tried to fight back, but it was useless she was too much for them.
After they were all dead, Kira's sword disappeared and she returned to normal. Their bodies strewn about on the ground, blood coating everything, including her. The displacer beast struggled to get up and began to speak.
“You are the one who searches for the killer of you village, are you not?” It said looking strait at her.
“Yes I am,” Kira said coldly, grabbing her regular sword. “Why do you ask?”
“The one who you search for is widely known, I don't know him myself, but I know who does,” it said smirking. “Lets make a deal, I’ll tell you where and you won’t kill me.” Kira looked at her with apathy; she lifted her sword and brought it down to the beast neck. The final blow never landed.
“Where is the one who knows?” She asked, keeping the sword steady.
“In a valley west of this place, not far from here, she knows everything.” It said.
“Thank you” Kira lifted her sword.
“You said you wouldn't kill me!” It yelled.
“I never agreed.” She hissed, before slicing its head off. Kira went out of the cave and began to walk west. She came upon a valley, in the valley an old, shabby house resided. She walked up to it with sword in hand.
“Hello Kira, no need to have weapons drawn,” came a woman’s voice. Kira spun around to see an old woman walking with a stick to support her. Kira made no move to put her sword down; she didn’t trust her.
“I heard you know who I am looking for, and how do you know my name?” Kira asked.
“I am Zilara, I see the past, and yes I know who you look for,” she said.
“Then who is it? What's their name?” Kira asked rapidly with hope shining in her eyes ‘Finally, I can take revenge on the one who killed my village.’ She thought.
The old woman got a sad look on her face. “Tell me, what do you remember of your past?” the old woman asked.
“I was in the village and vampires began killing them, my parents hid me while they went to fight it off, and I fell asleep. When I woke up, everything was dead.” Kira said.
“Do you know why they attacked?” She asked.
“Because vampires are ruthless killers who kill for fun,” Kira spat.
“Yes, sometimes they do, but the ones who killed your village did not kill for fun. They were protecting someone close to their master,” she said.
“Who was it?” Kira asked. Zilara smiled a bit
“You and your family.”
“What!? They’re the ones who killed them! Why would the vampires protect the ones they killed?” Kira asked.
“Because they didn't kill them Kira,” a voice called from behind her, she turned around and saw the man in the black and blood red cloak
“Hello Dameon,” Zilara said, “It’s been a while since I last saw you.”
“Dameon? You’re the one who commanded my village dead? How could you!?” Kira yelled.
“Kira, you don't know the entire story, let him speak,” Zilara said Kira began to protest but he cut her off.
“I didn't kill your parents, the village did.” He said.
“Why?” Kira asked looking shocked.
“Because they had raised you,” He explained. “You weren't like them, and the village knew it too.”
“They weren't my real parents?” She asked.
“No, once the village learned what you were, they decided to put them and you to death.”
“Who are my real parents?”
“You’re my child, your real mother, who was human, was killed by the villagers once they found out that she had a child to a vampire. It was forbidden, but she had not cared. She gave you to her friend who knew about us.”
“Why didn't you take me?”
“Because I couldn't raise you. A lot was happening then and I couldn't keep you.
“Once the village learned about you they killed them. I was trying to stop them and get you but I was too late to save them, I saw you and your eyes glow red when it happened. You attacked the village and killed them all. I would have taken you with me, but you tried to kill me as well, you were blinded by hate and rage. When I came back, you were gone.”
“I killed them all? What sort of monster am I?” Kira backed away from them, still holding her sword “I-I killed them all” Kira held her head down and looked at her sword “Dameo-, I mean, father, please, please forgive me.” She looked at them with tears streaming down her face; she picked up her sword and aimed it at her heart.
“Kira, NO!” He yelled as Kira drove the sword through herself and fell to the cold, hard, unforgiving, ground.
