A poem inspired by one of my mum's songs that she threw away a few years ago.

Fade Away
Isn’t life hard? I whisper, as you stand beside me,
You nod distantly, looking across the sea.
My smile is sad, thinking of the past,
Things went by so quickly, went by so fast.
This is your favourite spot, where we stand,
You loved the wind in your hair, your feet in the sand.
Your hand brushes against mine, with the softest of touch,
In your eyes I can see, how you love me so much.
I was so happy when it all began,
I couldn’t believe I had gotten such a perfect man.
You promised to protect me, and keep me safe,
Always and forever, till the end of your days.
Don’t cry, you whisper, and I brush the tears away,
Thinking back to that time, thinking back to that day.
You step away from me, and I try to clutch your hand,
But I can’t, and you say, you need to understand.
The waves crash against the shore, ridding us of sound,
It slams against the cliff, echoing all around.
A painful pounding in my head causes me to yell,
A mistake it seems, for I have broken the spell.
Please, I beg, don’t leave me, please just stay,
But it was to no avail, and I watch you fade away.
Tears fall silently, as you disappear from my side.
Oh, how it hurt me so, that day when you died.
