Covering Letter

Firstly, this is not a love letter.
There will be no amorous sentiments in these
Few lines.
Treat it as a bank statement, with
Cool indifference, or maybe let
A fond smile
Play at your lips, but do not sigh
And clutch your breast, or
Re-read it many times.
For the purpose of our correspondence,
I suggest you purchase a shredder.
I do not think love should profess itself in prose
Or verse -
No flimsy love poetry in return, please.
Despite this lukewarm message, I expect,
No, desire a kiss when next we meet.
There should be no awkwardness when we greet
Each other, or perhaps a little,
(We are young after all). Yet,
I do love you.
It is probable you will not think so
- Because of this not being a love letter -
But I would request that you think warmly of me
And perhaps go as far to love me, too.
I remain yours,
