In every city, there is a building somewhere. Within the building is an office. This office has no windows, no air vents – nothing – save for the door in. The office has always been there. It will always be there – but it will almost always be abandoned. The few foolhardy souls who dare work in the building will feel fear and dread creep up on them at random. They will see something watching them – but they will not know what. If one were to enter and talk to the workers, they would hear murmurings of dark things. Deepest night and shattered sigils – stuff that would be considered fairytales anywhere else. Anywhere else, but there.
If you go into the abandoned ones, you will be struck with a sense of terror. This terror will permeate every part of your being – but will not allow you to move. After this fleeting sensation, you will be allowed to move normally. All the doors will be locked to you – save one. No one knows what is behind the locked doors although the ones that press their ears up to them have come back…less. If you resist the temptation, your feet will lead you down a long hallway – and you will stop at a bright red door with a silver doorknob.
When you are at the door – you have a choice. One choice is to leave the office the way you came. You will not be harmed by anything – though you will feel someone watching you for the rest of your life. The other choice is to grasp the silver doorknob and open the door. In the unlocked room, there is a table. On it is a switched-off printer with no paper in the feeder. The model of the printer is a Canon LBP-810…although the few who make it out have said that 666 would be a better number. The room is illuminated by a single light – dangling above the printer. Once you step near the table, the door will slam shut. Do not look back – keep your gaze firmly on the printer. Those who do not – no one knows what happens to them. The printer will switch itself on and it will print out a sheet of paper. On this paper will be your entire future – your achievements, your failures, your affairs…your death.
Do not take the paper out of the printer yet. Wait for the printer to switch itself off. Those who are too greedy are found the next day…in several dumpsters. In several states. After the printer has shut off, gently remove the paper and look over it. Do not copy anything from the page, but scan it carefully. When you are done, place the page inside the feeder tray and walk backwards – out the door. only after you have left the room can you safely turn around. The information – or how much you remember of it – is now yours. Live your life without fear – after all you know what’ll happen!
Do not allow your eyes to leave the printer at any time before you leave the room. The sprightly few who have – and have made it out alive – say the sound of the printer firing up is the last thing you will ever hear.
After all, the paper has to come from somewhere…
