She stepped through the black archway into the light

Got down on her knees, begged to be gone before doomsday

Didn't realize Hell could be so bright

-

Seven angels of judgement fell down from the sky

But despite all the signs, she crawled on God's stone lap to pray

She stepped through the black archway into the light

-

If she listened hard enough, she thought she heard children cry

She took the blade to that idol's throat; the Devil was there to stay

Didn't realize Hell could be so bright

-

She waded down the steps into that lake of fire, only to fry

And deep down in Ishtar's wet brothel, there she lay

She stepped through the black archway into the light

-

As Death stalked Life through the chill of night

All of Earth's purest whites would be soiled in gray

Didn't realize Hell could be so bright

-

To every pox she'd lose the fight

Her personal apocalypse draws closer every day

She stepped through the black archway into the light

Didn't realize Hell could be so bright.
