Sometimes she sees his face

When she's tired and worn.

He always has a smiled

That leaves her heart torn.

But most of the time now,

Her mind's eye is okay.

She doesn't think of him

All day, every day.

That's how it used to be:

A strong and constant pain,

A wish that they could be

Together once again.

But it's been so long now,

It's been so many years,

Filled with too much heartache,

And way too many tears

So now she's moved on.

She's married another man.

And now their kids have kids;

She's a happy old gran.

But when she does slip up

And lets him flood her mind,

She fills with sorrow and guilt

For leaving him behind

She hates these moments,

When her heart starts to feel,

Dreaming the impossible,

And wishing he was real.

The day will never come

When he will cease to be,

But she'll continue to try,

Hoping one day she'll be free.
