Embrace

I hurt.

I took another breath,

And a shudder ran through my body.

My mouth formed words,

Though no sound emerged from my lips.

I watched him walk away,

Lying on the floor in my own blood.

The pain ebbed.

Cold hands wrapped around my arms,

And I stopped fighting for breath.

The skin turned warm, or

Mine turned cold.

Protective arms wrapped around my waist,

And I floated

In death’s embrace.
