so I told the old man I was lying
I said cartoons are real
before my eyes, this man I loved was dying
...and I just sat there crying

I spoke to him my make-believing
to keep him entertained
before my eyes, this man I loved was leaving
...and I just sat there grieving

I told him of my mind's working
guilty of my deceptions
by this man I loved, death was lurking
...and I just sat there hurting

I stayed with him every day
just to keep him company
before my eyes, this man I loved slipped away
...and I just sat there and paid

I was by his side for so long
just so he had a friend
then, before my eyes, this man I loved was gone
...and I just played along

my world lost, in the blink of my eye
I loved the old man so dearly
before my eyes, this man I loved had died
...and I just sat there and cried...
