I want to hold the universe

In my arms; feel it curve

In its restless sleep,

ease its heartaches

with smoothing hands.

Quiet it, as it gives birth to itself

Over and over.

Rake from its fur the extraneous

The ticks and burrs

The populations

that clamor for its attention

Disturb its sleep,

And threaten to burst it.

I want to tell it

“No more. We are sleeping now

No more generations.”

Reassure it…

Feel it purr.
