Fairview Asylum, October 9, 2014

Patient: Hawkes, Ellen

Doctor: Heath, Benjamin

“Hello, Ms. Hawkes. How are you today?”

“I’m cold.”

“The heat is on.”

“It’s freezing.

“Your jacket is in the chair, Ms. Hawkes”

“Would you like a flower?”

“The nurses tell me you’ve been having nightmares. Is this true?”

“I don’t know.”

“Nightmares are dreams that are of a disturbing nature, do you understand?” She gave him a look that said, ‘I’m crazy, not stupid.’

“I only remember one, but I think the others are worse.”

“Why do you think that?” The look again.

“Because I remember it.” She replied, as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“What is it about?”

“What? You promised you’d bring me yellow roses, not purple.”
