i don't have any answers tonight
and these questions are burning me raw to the bone
and i sure hope you can't see through to this crippled
mindset, as my triggered smile stains my face fake.

but someday i know we'll find the words
for the things we need to say

i mean, maybe not today
or tomorrow, or within the next month even
but maybe in, say, six hundred years we'll finally get
the happiness we (would like to) deserve

and maybe the sun will burst through the
clouds
and dry this damp hair of nightmares and fear
and clenched fists will come undone and
maybe then
i'll remember how to breathe?

but for now the skyline sinks a little further
and we'll pour out empty poetry into a wounded horizon, just
to watch it bleed and
i can pretend you'd hold my hand if i choked
on my innocence,
pretend you'd be there to understand.

but i sure hope someday, i'll find the words
for all these things i keep trying to say

i mean, definitely not today, and probably not
tomorrow, or (ever)
but maybe in, say, another life
with another identity and in just one more evanescing dream --

maybe then
(you would love me.)
