I wish that I could write a tale of love
And match a star to every poignant word.
I’d reminisce on times we shared
And recall all that I’d heard.

I wish that I could serenade your soul
And make you fall in love with me once more.
I’d wrap you tightly in my arms
Just like I did before.

I wish that I could tell you how I feel
And cry and scream and shake for all I’m worth
I’d hate you ‘til the end of time
If I didn’t love you like the earth.

I wish that I could travel back in time
And warn myself to closely guard my heart
I’d keep it under lock and key
And stay forever smart.

I wish that I could trust my tender dreams
And believe that one day hope will reappear
I’d love again with new found strength
And be free of all my fear.
