Nighttime Angels

Were you really here?

You haven’t watched me

In so long.

I can’t properly categorize you;

Dream or Reality?

The night makes us question,

To remember the monsters

In our closets

Beneath our beds

But you sit at my desk.

A shadowy figure

With long limbs and dark hair.

Your pale skin glows in the moonlight.

Were you here

Or only in my head?

The night has kept your kind

Safe for centuries.

Victims hardly speak

Of the mysterious specters,

From fear or

Lack of fleshy breath.

The sunlight cleanses

Those silly notions.

But I can sense things

(even as I sleep)

I feel eyes on my body

Where hands long to touch.

I’ve caught you

My elusive angel,

You kiss me and touch me in dreams?

Scared you must be…

Of what I would truly do

So I long for sleep to find me,

When you’re near.

For that’s the only way I know

You’ll get close enough

To feel.
