if perhaps we had

no hands to play

the tricky notes

and impressive chords;

if perhaps

no soaring voices

to reach applause-garnering notes

and strike eerie harmonies;

if indeed

no mouths to shape

nor lungs to breathe

nor minds to propose

a sequence of notes -

then, perhaps,

our whole hearts would be

in each and every sound.

but then,

where would the music be?
